Ronald Brooks Kitaj
Dominie in Catalonia, Kitaj drawing black white portrait of young girl with hat

1977

$1,800

About

This hand-drawn black and white portrait of Dominie, Kitaj’s adopted daughter, is one of the few etchings produced by the artist. The shape of Dominie’s wide sunhat and its patterned band sets off the sensitive and elegant lines of her face. Kitaj and his wife adopted her from India in 1964, and it’s possible this portrait was drawn at their house in Sant Feliu de Guíxols, a port town in Catalonia. Paper 25.25 x 20 in / 64.1 x 50.8 cm Image 10.7 x 10.7 in. / 27 x 27 cm Etching on Wove paper. Signed by the artist lower left in pencil; numbered 10/50 lower right in pencil. Catalogue reference: Jane Kinsman The Prints of R.B. Kitaj, Scolar Press in association with the National Gallery of Australia 1994, no. 93, illustrated p. 119.
