Sonal is a storyteller. Her primary medium of choice is printmaking, exquisite etchings whose protagonists jump off the page to tell their stories. Like all good narratives that lucidly roll from one tale to the other the artist works in series. Be it her Kissa Goi or Emoticons series, each work comprises of many parts, all fitting together as one large work, or, equally as pleasing, as individual works that speak to each other in any combination of pattern. The artist explains that in the evenings the women gather on the roof terraces of her town to tell the tales that are passed down. These are stories that primarily revolve around the woman and their everyday role in a patriarchal society. These tales become mixed with the contemporary, both local and global events that effect the lives of the women. At first glance there is an anecdotal quality to the visual narratives but look a little longer and you will be rewarded by layer upon layer of meaning. Through the clever use of text and images of objects which may at first appear to be dislocated, each part of the image pulls together the narrative, expanding it into many different levels. In Sonal's own words, 'I live in Lucknow, that is my studio. There is a very old tradition in Lucknow, which we are kissa goi, in which everyone shares their stories, the stories of which we are happy to remember, they are very beautiful forgetful tales. There are many stories that are related to me and can be related to you, which are all of us, my work title is kissa goi, in this I have prepared a panel of works.' In this particular work Sonal tells the tale, 'Whenever we have a surprise that we cannot even think and we get it, we are very happy that happened to me recently, I have just received so many gifts that had many beautiful dresses which I was given one by my art collectors. With whom I have become a way of thinking, I like it more than thinking that it is my relationship that I have made, but I have made myself, I wear clothes that I am very happy and she has created a mirror. He has also made, the happiness of what is being made is even greater. And gifts are gifts all around.' For more information please see the artist Biography or contact the Gallery.

Untitled, Intaglio on Paper by Modern Indian Artist Laxma Goud "In Stock"
By Laxma Goud
Located in Kolkata, West Bengal
K. Laxma Goud - Untitled - Paper Size : 29.7 x 22.2 inches Print Size : 18.5 x 12.8 inches Intaglio on Paper ; 2014 ALL IN DOOR DELIVERED ( Unframed & Delivered ) Style : Goud displays versatility over a range of mediums, from printmaking, drawing, watercolour, gouache and pastels to glass painting and sculpture in bronze and terracotta. Over the many years of his artistic career, he is known to have moved from one medium to another with élan. Fellow artist T. Vaikuntam, in one of his interviews, reminisces that it was Laxma Goud who introduced him to the art of sketching and made him aware of the possibilities of this medium. When one looks at Goud’s work, rustic, raw, and potent might be the first words that come to mind. His portraits of men and women represent the dynamic Indian ethos rather than particular individual identities. A recurrent theme with the artist is that of the erotic, treated as an active and powerful aspect of male and female sexuality and existence. Goud’s work is dramatic; his protagonists are raw and vivacious in their appeal, imbibed with energy that reverberates through his strokes and textures. Most of Goud’s art is centered on the rural, recreating landscapes from his childhood as if they were frozen in time. In the artist’s later work, his figures turn softer, more introspective than brash in their outlook. About the Artist and his work : Born : 1940 in Nizampur, Andhra Pradesh...
