Ignacio Iturria
"Que Alivio, " Silkscreen on Board signed by Ignacio Iturria

1996-98

About the Item

"Que Alivio" is an original silkscreen by Ignacio Iturria. The artist signed the piece in the lower right and wrote the edition number (25/59) in the lower left. This piece depicts a figure on a couch that is on a larger couch. This silkscreen is mostly brown and black. 25" x 32" art 37" x 43" frame Ignacio Iturria was born in Montevideo, Uruguay, in 1949 and grew along the waterfront of the Plate River. The city’s physical character and cultural spirit lingers in Iturria’s art, notably with the recurrent presence of nautical scenes. The colors most associated with Iturria’s work are the thick, muddy browns and earthy tones that churn through the Plate River and the southern Atlantic Ocean. Iturria returned to Uruguay in 1985 from an extended stay in Cadaqués, Spain, where he was immersed in the expressive pictorial language associated with the vibrant colors and energies of Spanish life. His art became focused more prominently on the themes of childhood memory. Exploring the subjects of everyday life around him, his painting also featured images of children’s toys such as figurine soldiers. Much of Iturria’s recent work reflects an interest in enhanced materiality and sculptural qualities, with large amounts of thick, tube-like portions of paint hovering on top of his canvases. Iturria has been featured in several exhibitions in recent years and represented his country at the LVI Venice Bienale in 1995, winning the special prize “Casa di Rispario.” His work has been recently exhibited at the Art Museum of the Americas in Washington D.C.; the North Dakota Museum of Art in Grand Forks and the Cultural Center of Winnipeg, Canada; the Museo de las Americas in San Juan, Puerto Rico; the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes, Buenos Aires, Argentine, which later traveled to the Museo Rufino Tamayo in Mexico City and the Museo de Monterrey in Mexico; and the Museo de Bellas Artes in Valencia, Spain.

By Ruth Grotenrath
Located in Milwaukee, WI
'O'Tannenbaum' (Artist's #30129) is an original color silkscreen print by Ruth Grotenrath, signed by the artist on verso. Influenced by the works of Expressionists like Henri Matisse and the woodblock prints of early modern Japanese artists like Katsushika Hokusai, Ruth Grotenrath's 'O'Tannenbaum' combines the expressive use of color of the former with the precision of the latter to create a Christmas card that is as vibrant as it is subtle. Depicting a pine tree decked with ornaments and stockings, Grotenrath has rendered the tree-topping star as a ball of flames to analogize the warmth and spirit of the holiday season. Original color silkscreen 6.625 x 4 inches, silkscreen 14.375 x 11.375 inches, frame Signed in screen on verso inside-letter Framed to conservation standards using archival materials including 100 percent rag matting and mounting materials, Museum Glass to inhibit UV damage and reduce glare, and housed in a gold finish wood frame. 'Mother's Day Bouquet' signed giclée print on watercolor paper floral still-life
By David Barnett
Located in Milwaukee, WI
'Mother's Day Bouquet' is a giclée print on watercolor paper, signed by the artist in the lower right. Atop a checkered placemat rests a bouquet of flowers in a vase. Foregoing botanical realism, Barnett has opted instead to present a uniform floral profile, emphasizing how their colors work as an ensemble rather than foregrounding any distinct physiological differences. The composition’s flattened perspective also resembles the works of another painter of flowers—Henri Matisse—from whom Barnett draws inspiration. Giclée print on watercolor paper after original 2004 mixed media 7 x 5 in, print 13.25 x 10.75 in, frame Signed lower right Framed to conversation standards using archival materials including 100 percent rag matting, UF5 plexiglass to inhibit fading, and housed in a gold finish wood moulding. David Barnett, an artist, collector, appraiser and gallerist has been passionate about art from the early age of five. David’s career as an art dealer began at age nineteen when, as a fine arts student, he sponsored an exhibition of work by fellow student artists. In 1966, he opened his first gallery in a converted basement apartment at Wisconsin Avenue and 21st Street. In 1985 David moved his gallery from Wisconsin Avenue into the Old Button Mansion on State Street and has been active ever since. David’s talents for recognizing undervalued artists and for meeting the needs of art lovers, art collectors and artists have created a vibrant, flourishing gallery and collection of over 6,000 works of art. David was born and raised in Wisconsin. He has been painting in watercolors, acrylics, oil pastels as well as fine art photography. David has more than 10 different series he has developed over the years. They include Abstract, Surrealism, Morph Dog, Up North Birch Bark, Impressions of Mexico City, Southwest, Fireworks, Famous Artist Paying Homage and Garden Panorama. Influential artists include Vermeer, Miro, Kandinsky, Chagall, Nolde and Klee. David has been featured in many magazines, newspapers and public television programs regarding his beautiful gallery, collection and knowledge and passion of fine art. David also has work in the permanent collection Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art, Arizona. "Les valeurs personnelles (Personal Values), " Lithograph after Rene Magritte
By René Magritte
Located in Milwaukee, WI
"Les valeurs personnelles (Personal Values)" is a color lithograph after the original 1952 painting by Rene Magritte. This interior scene has objects of various sizes. A comb, match, brush, and glass are bigger than typically larger objects like a queen bed and chest of drawers. The walls are a bright cloudy sky. Art: 19.63 x 4.75 in Frame: 34.13 x 38.88 in René-François-Ghislain Magritte was born November 21, 1898, in Lessines, Belgium and died on August 15, 1967 in Brussels. He is one of the most important surrealist artists. Through his art, Magritte creates humor and mystery with juxtapositions and shocking irregularities. Some of his hallmark motifs include the bourgeois “little man,” bowler hats, apples, hidden faces, and contradictory texts. René Magritte’s father was a tailor and his mother was a miller. Tragedy struck Magritte’s life when his mother committed suicide when he was only fourteen. Magritte and his two brothers were thereafter raised by their grandmother. Magritte studied at the Brussels Academy of Fine Arts from 1916 to 1918. After graduating he worked as a wallpaper designer and in advertisement. It was during this period that he married Georgette Berger, whom he had known since they were teenagers. In 1926, René Magritte signed...
