About the Item
Baumgartner deals with contrasts in her work. This is already evident in her choice of technique. Christiane Baumgartner uses one of the oldest techniques in the art of printing, the woodcut, as well as modern technology with the help of videos and video stills, thus bringing digital technology back to the analog. She always depicts contemporary motifs. These are vehicles, road traffic scenes, flying objects, wind turbines in nature or pure landscape motifs. Her works show the interplay of speed and standstill. Through the arrangement of the linear structures, the pictures create the illusion of flickering; they appear to be moving and constantly changing.
This present woodcut on Zerkall handmade paper from 2008 is numbered "29/30" in pencil below the image on the left, titled “Gent” in the center and signed and dated “Baumgartner 2008” on the right.
