About the Item

Ian Phillips Cwm Hen Gae Limited Edition Linocut Print on Paper Edition of 16 Image Size: H 70cm x W 88.2cm x D 0.01cm Sold Unframed Free Shipping Please note that in situ images are purely an indication of how a piece may look. Cwm Hen Gae is a limited edition seascape print by Ian Phillips. The light colours palette and bold style of this work makes it a delight to look at. My printing process starts today, as it’s always done, by going walking with my sketchbook. I follow lonely trails over empty hills, down twisting forest tracks, or along sea cliffs looking for colour, pattern and texture to draw. Then it’s back to the studio to cut, mix colours and print. In 2001 I moved to Mid Wales to study the landscape and improve my printmaking. Since then I have been creating sequential series of large scale landscape and seascape linocuts. Utilising all the inspiring mark making, patterns and techniques I have absorbed over the intervening years from a wide variety of sources. Including artists from the Torres Strait Islands at Djumbunji Print workshop in Cairns, studying with Professor Wang Chou in Hangzhou, China and working with the Pine Feroda collaboration. I now specialise in prints based on drawing long distance walks and exploring landscapes of iconic interest and lonely beauty.

Sailing at Blakeney Point, Contemporary Linocut Seascape Print, Sailing Boat Art
By Joanna Padfield
Located in Deddington, GB
Sailing at Blakeney Point is inspired by summer sailing trips from Morston to Blakeney Point in North Norfolk. In the foreground are flowers and plants typically found along the marches of the Norfolk coast. A Sailing barge is sailing back towards Morston and Blakeney Point can be seen in the distance . Jo Padfield, printmaker and artist, is available for sale online and in our gallery at Wychwood Art. Jo Padfield is an artist based in rural Norfolk - I love the natural world and my work celebrates nature and the natural environment, using bright vibrant colours and bold eye catching shapes and patterns. After studying at Norwich School of Art I went on to study and work in architecture. As my path in design continued, I have developed my love of colour and graphics in print making to create linocut prints. I like the process of cutting fresh lino with sharp tools and the anticipation of peeling paper off an inked block...

Harvest Field, Norfolk Landscape Art, Handmade Linocut Print, Modern Style Art
By Rob Barnes
Located in Deddington, GB
In this linocut I was trying to create movement and a warm range iof colours. The cutting is intended to be vigorous with ears of wheat in the foreground against a setting sun. Rob Barnes, artist, is available for sale online and in our art gallery at Wychwood Art. Rob Barnes studied painting and printmaking at Hull College of Art and London University in the early 1960s. He taught etching, screen-printing, lino and related surface printmaking at Keswick Hall College in Norfolk. He later moved to the University of East Anglia, Norwich where he continued teaching in the School of Education until 2006. Presently he divides his time between printmaking and his other passion, playing the violin in local orchestras and for choral performances. In 2017 he began making a small number of sterling silver jewellery pieces following a course at West Dean, Sussex. His artwork follows themes, such as light on water, or shadows in the landscape. Linocuts are hand-printed on an Albion press...

Abstract Landscape Indian Art Edition 3/5 Linocut Print Nature Orange Australia
By Mukesh Sharma
Located in Norfolk, GB
There is a natural and raw understanding in Mukesh Sharma’s prints that both depict, and are influenced by, the Rajastani communities of his home town in rural India. In these Limited Edition fine-art prints, made over a period of twenty years, we are offered the colours of India’s ancient land, the textures, light and the patterns that are everywhere. In the patterns of the arable fields to the jali's (carved screens) in the architecture. This work is however not romantic nor nostalgic but shows a deeper rooted need to offer a visual heritage of place, of where the artist is from and the journey that he is taking. The results are both compelling and honest. Mukesh Sharma, Jetty 1, Lino-cut chin- coll’e on German Ivory paper Edition: 3 of 5, 2005 Image size: 50 x 33 cm / Sheet size: 79 x 55 cm Unframed ''What mesmerised me was the meeting of the sea and the mountain peak. Where the Jetty, a special curved wooden staircase leading to one end and the deep crystal clear sea at a distance. These scenes were amazing to me." Mukesh Sharma's work: It is often in childhood that paths are set for what we will become. Mukesh Sharma hails from a rural, agricultural village in Rajasthan, India. His Father is a craftsman who fixed and mended farm machinery and understood the working parts in the processes. Sharma followed in his Father’s footsteps, as is often the case in Indian families, but his was not the machines of the fields but the presses of the printing studio. Like his Father, Mukesh Sharma is fascinated with understanding how things work and how he can manipulate the metal in his hands. It is not surprising then that his medium of choice is printing. One of the most physically challenging of all the practices, it can often be physically challenging as well as technical and detailed. In his youth, Sharma would draw with stones on walls and floors. He was lucky his family encouraged this and he is grateful for his early art-training at the Jaipur School of Art but it was at the Baroda Art Department that he was introduced to the great printing traditions of Jyoti Bhatt...
