Frank Schott grew up in Germany and attended the prestigious Academy of Arts in Cologne, studying under Professor Arno Jansen, who was an early influence.
Moving to California in 1998, Schott's work has evolved to include the epic landscapes and deserts of the American West as well as architectural, conceptual and more formal environments from both home and his travels.
Influenced by a number of photographic peers and precursors such as Candida Höfer, Andreas Gursky, Thomas Struth, Jeff Wall, Michael Wolf, Gregory Crewdson, William Eggleston and Joel Sternfeld, Schott's images successfully blend technical, conceptual and formal rigor with a decisive sense of composition and color.
Schott's images have an iconic sensibility and give us a bird's eye view onto humanity and its constructs. The specific is edged towards the abstract, often revealing the compelling and disjunctive moment where nature meets man.

WHAT IS A CYANOTYPE?
The cyanotype (a.k.a. sun-print) process is one of the oldest in the history of photography, dating back to the 1840's.
Cyanotypes were then made famous by Anna Atkins, considered the first female photographer. Inspired by nature, we feel the need to look back at a craft that is handmade, analogue, and using an all-natural light source: the sun.
Our cyanotypes are made by coating high-quality Italian watercolor paper with a light-sensitive emulsion. We then expose it in direct sunlight for several minutes using a photo negative to get the best image quality. Finally, the print is washed and fixed with water to stop the reaction and prevent fading.
What you get is an amazing, royal blue image...

The project uses the remains of recently felled trees to construct talismanic 'forest figures'. They are left to slowly fall apart where they stand with the photographic record being the only enduring impression. The forest is in constant flux, with the trees coming and going either of their own accord or through forest management. Starting in 1970, John traveled to South Africa capturing images of the people and social divide of Aparteid. His iconic Subway series shot between the mid 1970’s and 1982 in New York City is part of the permanent collection of The New York Historical Society and Hoboken Historical Museum. In 2010, John Conn spent 45 days in Antarctica and Patagonia, traveling and hiking to capture the land and seascapes. He spent over 20 days journeying over 3,200 nautical miles in Antarctica before heading to Patagonia for the second part of his expedition. In 2014/15 John began a series of treks across the US photographing Americans, similar to what Robert Frank did in the late 1950’s. In 2015/16, he spent a month in Cuba photographing...
