About the Item
Canot, P.C. (French, worked in England, 1710-1777), after Willem van de Velde and Ludolph Bakhuizen. "A BRISK GALE" and "A MODERATE GALE," engravings, 1765 and 1766, respectively, and with the inscriptions and numbered "21" and "22," as called for. 16 7/8 x 21 inches, with full margins (Moderate), 16 1/2 x 20 1/2 inches, trimmed within the platemark (Brisk). "Brisk," trimmed, as noted, the extreme edges of the margins of "Moderate" somewhat ragged, else both in very good condition.
