About the Item
"Exposition d'Art Français" features a busy, dreamy depiction of the French countryside in a very loose style. Created by Raoul Dufy as the poster for an exhibition held in Kaunas, Lithuania in 1939. Plate 28 of Les Affiches Originales, printed in 1959 by Fernand Mourlot. Rich, dense lead inks keep this lithograph looking spectacular.
Raoul Dufy (French, 1877-1953) was a French Fauvist artist and designer known for brightly colored and highly decorative scenes. Works by Dufy can be found in the collections of the Musée d’Orsay, the Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg, The Museum of Modern Art in New York, and the Art Institute of Chicago.
"...Fernand Mourlot has been synonymous with the resurgence of lithography – a process which under his influence, attracted the greatest artistic masters of our time. The medium provided a new avenue of expression, a new realm of possibilities for the likes of Picasso, Matisse, Chagall, Miró, Braque, Dubuffet, Léger, and Giacometti to enrich their own work as well as fine art in general.
