Medium: Aquatint, Drypoint, Etching Year: 2009 Image Size: 4.3 x 3.54 Edition size: 50 Brooding landscape a single red tree on a promontory overlooking the ocean. Lawlor's early etchings were often landscapes combining elements from old Master paintings. Later he started to include portraits of women from those same centuries, such as characters from the Tudor and Medici royal courts, and also Japan’s Floating world. Stephen Lawlor (born 1958 in Dublin), and is an honours graduate of Dublin's National College of Art and Design from 1980-1983. During the 1980s he taught in Dún Laoghaire Institute of Art, Design and Technology Dublin. His work during this time was based on the figure of the horse which he developed through drawings etchings, lithographs and monotypes. An accomplished painter as well as a master printer, Lawlor has recently started to make sculpture in bronze. He has had solo shows in Ireland, England and the U.S.A. and has participated in numerous International Group exhibitions. His work is in private collections in the United States, Australia, The Far East and most of Europe. He was elected an associate member of the Royal Society of Painter Printmakers (RE) in London in 2016 and he was a founding member of the International Academic Printmaking Alliance (IAPA) at the Central Academy of Fine Art in Beijing, 2016. He has been a member of Graphic Studio Dublin since 1984 and is its current Chairman.
