Framed dimensions: 40.5 x 53.5 x 4.25 cm.
Louis Moe was a Norwegian painter, illustrator and writer who settled in Denmark. He is known for his many book illustrations, illustrated classical works, fairytales, children's books and books on mythology, and contributed to children's magazines and weekly magazines. He is represented in the National Gallery in Oslo, and the Danish Museum of Art & Design in Copenhagen and in Rasmus Meyers Samlinger in Bergen, and a Louis Moe Gallery has been established in Vrådal. He was decorated Knight of the Order of the Dannebrog in 1931.

John Hely-Hutchinson (1724-1794) was a politician, lawyer and Provost of Trinity College, Dublin. Born in Gortroe, County Cork in 1724, he graduated from Trinity College in 1744, and swiftly built up a good practice at the Bar. From 1760 until his death he represented Cork in Parliament. Promotion to the post of Prime Serjeant followed in 1761 and on most issues he supported the Government, and acquired several lucrative offices. His appointment as Provost of Trinity as a married layman who had not been a Fellow was a continued source of friction as the Fellows resented the imposition of what they perceived as a career politician with no pretensions to scholarship. Two whaling ships meet out at sea, one named after an Indigenous American tribe and the other after the first king of the northern Kingdom of Israel, the latter set upon by a malignant epidemic and a sailor gone mad with the belief that he is the Archangel Gabriel. Both ships are plagued, one by sickness and the other by obsession, and neither heeds the warnings of the mad prophet. Built out in layers of paper that have been printed using techniques like lithography and etching, this colossal print by Frank Stella employs careful color against warping black and white grids to give the impression of control slowly slipping and giving way to chaos. Photos don't give this piece proper justice; it is carefully collaged in purposeful layers that constantly pull the eye in every direction and the viewer closer and closer in.
