"I spend considerable time dreaming up photographic scenarios in the wild and how I might have a chance of making them come to life. These ideas are followed by in-depth research of various locations across East Africa to pinpoint places where I could have a chance with a bit of luck.
This photograph, however, was not one of those moments. I have never even dreamt of anything like this. It’s a moment I thought impossible to capture with a wild leopard. But right at this second, years of searching for unique moments in the wild came together into one unforgettable experience. I couldn’t have been in a better place at a better time.
The previous afternoon, I had been at the exact location with a young male leopard hiding high up in the canopy with a bushbuck kill. The following morning, we were in the same area and could see the tree in the distance. My guide asked, shall we go back and see if that leopard is still there? There hadn’t been a photographic opportunity the day before, but I felt it would be crazy...

The Luminograms are made from the most simple of procedures - directing light onto silver gelatin photo paper. However, it is that simplicity that allows Jackson to adapt his own way of thinking into the making of the finished piece. As he says, it's as close as he can get in photography to painting.

The 3D concepts that were first expanded in the same art movement by El Lissitzky a hundred years ago, are also explored here by Jackson’s drowned thin line within the third of the image. In his vision, the line reflects a shelf with the object on top, by adding the weight to it, the gravity pushing them down.

"La Russe" eglomise from the famous "Sensuality" Series by Vladimir Clavijo

In this project, Vladimir Clavijo-Telepnev draws a line between sensuality and explicit sexuality in depicting a woman's body. Modern photography offers two main approaches to the subject: a provocative sexuality and an impassive perception of a plastic form. As a matter of fact, aggressive approaches are increasingly predominant in taking photos of a naked body. For example, paparazzi are keen to shoot women with a candid camera in bed, bathrooms, etc.
Characteristically, Vladimir rejects using bright colors and deliberately limits himself in methods of expression. All the characters are shot sitting back to the viewer, and the sensual message is conveyed through fine outlines, plasticity of a woman's body and definite parts of the background.
In the Film Divas project, the portraits are given in the form of a definite film symbol, while Sensuality is a sort of a poster imbued with sensuality. In his portraits Vladimir uses still life elements, which are helpful in revealing the objects: a woman's back, a child sitting next to her, flowers, a hand with a string of pearls on an opened book, a branch of winter berries against the background of home-made open-work fabric.

"The play of water and light has fascinated me for years. From childhood I have found sunlight underwater mesmerising - be it a Cornish rock pool or The Red Sea, the movement and diffraction of light excites me. Add to that the thrill of schools of fish - specifically Akule, which are found in seas off Hawaii. I spent some time wanting to make a series of prints that captured the play of light on these fast moving fish - creating flowing abstract forms and textures." - Mike G Jackson

Michael Jackson (b.1966) is an experimental photographer based in North Dorset, England. He studied art at West Dean College in Sussex, then apprenticed under landscape painter Christopher W Baker and later discovered his passion for photography. He moved away from working with traditional camera techniques in 2015 and is currently progressing the Luminogram process into new directions in which he has become regarded as a leading practitioner.
His work has been exhibited internationally and is part of various private and museum collections including The National Art Gallery in Washington, USA.
