About the Item

Patty deGrandpre’s “Red Road Black Chair ” is an 11.5 x 9 inch unique inkjet monoprint represented on 16.5 x 11 inch Awagami Bamboo paper embracing both digital printmaking and creative photography. Three distinct fields color are are thoughtfully blended to create this modern landscape depicting highways and roadside terrain from a road trip traversing the United States. From the perspective of viewing out of a car window, a predominately red image of a highway sits on the bottom half of this striking composition. Vast Southwest land is depicted in muted green and sits above a contrasting black contour of pavement and mounds of sagebrush. A superimposed black lawn chair whimsically hovers over and amongst the hills and grasses and effortlessly merges with the layered imagery. Skillfully combining the pictorial and abstract with a strong sense of graphic design, deGrandpre’s vast catalog of photographs of her travels and life experiences become the catalyst for her artworks. Images are deconstructed, cropped, and layered then printed with her inkjet printer. deGrandpre’s inkjet printer becomes her press as she prints layer upon layer of ink creating unique monoprints that are rich in color and tone. This refined print is signed and dated under the bottom right corner of the image and will ship flat in a protective sleeve ready for the frame of your choice. This modern landscape would make a elegant addition to any contemporary collection. Patty deGrandpre’s travels and everyday life experiences become the catalyst for her art making. Her vast catalog of photographs are digitally manipulated, deconstructed, cropped, then printed and layered within other media. deGrandpre’s graphic approach to her work and her inclination for utilizing existing images lends itself to her skill in combining the pictorial and familiar with the abstract. deGrandpre is a New Mexico based artist whose work has been shown both regionally and nationally. She is represented by Fountain Street Gallery based in Boston, Ma.
