About

Kabukie is an original modern artwork realized by Utagawa Kuniyoshi (1798 – 1861) in the half of the 19th Century. Original woodcut print on paper. Oban from a triptych, around 1840. The actor Ichikawa Uzaemon in the role of a young courtier on stage. He holds a fan between his teeth and wears a wide pink hakama under wich he hides a lacquer container. Signed in plate. Publisher: Soshuya Yohei. Censorship: Kiwame. Excellent conditions, glued at upper corners. Utagawa Kuniyoshi (1798 – 1861) was one of the last great masters of the Japanese ukiyo-e style of woodblock prints and painting. He was a member of the Utagawa school.
