About the Item

It is thanks to the chemist Paul Baudecroux that we owe the famous lipstick, "Rouge baiser", the lipstick that resists kissing, born in the roaring twenties. To make this essential cosmetic pass through time, it was necessary to find a genius illustrator who, with a few strokes of the pencil, would propel the lipstick to the top of the podium. René Gruau was the man for the job. René Gruau 🇮🇹 (1909-2004) was a French-Italian illustrator, poster artist and painter renowned for his illustrations for fashion and advertising. Almost in a single stroke, he draws a woman's face, a face that remains and will remain mysterious since it is partly hidden by a beret, hair, a dove or simply a headband. More than a meticulous calculation, it is thus a talented draftsman who allowed to immortalize a lipstick and to make it pass cheerfully the years. The work of Gruau is infinitely rich, his sovereign line accompanies the female representation over nearly sixty years. A witness to his time, Gruau has also visually marked several generations with his timeless work. Fashion - Advertising - Cosmetics Paul Baudecroux
