About the Item

Anthony Lazorko (1935-2017). Supermarket Still Life, 1962. From an edition of 25. Woodblock on rice paper, image measures 16 x 30 inches. Framed measurement: 29 x 35.5 inches. Signed, titled, dated and numbered 4/25 by the artist in pencil lower margin. Anthony Lazorko (1935-2017) created rich and intricate multi-color woodblock prints. Lazorko stated "The focus of my work has always been to depict something about the American experience, no matter how ordinary, and to say it in an aesthetic manner with tactile surfaces, color and composition." Lazorko attended the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, Philadelphia, PA from 1956-1960. After retiring from his job as Art Director of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, he began making prints again. His work has been included in recent exhibitions at El Paso Museum of Art, El Paso, TX; Dempsey Arts Center, Auburn, AL; Berkeley Arts Center, Berkeley CA; and International Print Center New York, New York, NY. His work is held by the New Jersey State Art Museum, Trenton, NJ. Condition is outstanding with no damage or conservation. No creasing, staining, toning or fading. A rare poster from an early show produced by Creative Time Inc. while only in their 2nd season. A lovely document of NYC art history. Ruckus Manhattan was a multimedia, three-dimensional representation of Manhattan on display on the ground level of 88 Pine Street. The out-of-scale model, constructed of papier-mâché, wood, plastic, fiberglass, and vinyl, was designed to conform to Manhattan’s psychic dimensions, rather than its physical ones, and included such landmarks as the Apollo Theatre, the Brooklyn Bridge, Central Park, the Chrysler Building, the Stock Exchange floor, Trinity Church, and the World Trade Center.
