About the Item

"La Nouvelle" is from Christoph Trew's Hortus Nitidissimis omnem per annum superbiens Floribus ... Der das ganze Jahr hindurch im schönsten Flor stehende Blumengarten, one of the finest botanical works of the eighteenth century, published between 1768-1786. The three volume tome illustrated a wide range of the cultivated flowers of the period, including more than 20 plates of tulips such as this one. The engraving is superbly handpainted in watercolor and gouache. Set within a French mat with gold foil banding and a carved giltwood frame.
