About the Item
This serene Mid-Century Modernist Mezzotint Still Life by Tomoe Yokoi originates from the United States, Circa 1970. This quiet scene depicts a still life on a round table with a darkened background, showing a tea-cup with floral detailing on the interior, resting on a table cloth which partially conceals the surface, revealing the back half of the wooden table on which rests a small bouquet of flowers in a blue vase. A daringly simple composition with darkened values and precise line-work, this piece has a delicate precision and sense of quiet tension. Signed by the artist in the lower righthand corner, with the edition number of 73/90 to bottom left. In a custom black enamel gallery frame, this piece will style beautifully in a wide array of spaces and settings, from Mid-Century Modernist to Contemporary and Minimal Interiors.
Tomoe Yokoi, born in Nagoya, Japan in 1943, studied art at Bunk Tokyo College of Art, where she learned traditional techniques and focused on realistic depictions of everyday items like fruits, musical instruments, and flowers. After graduating in 1964, she moved to Paris and studied intaglio printmaking with S. W. Hayter at the renowned Atelier workshop. In Paris, she mastered mezzotint, creating more complex and subtly colored images. In 1971, Yokoi relocated to New York City, where she worked and showcased her art. Her unique style reflects a blend of her experiences in Japan, Paris, and New York.

By Laurent Schkolnyk
Located in New York, NY
This gorgeous and subtle still life print by Laurent Schkolnyk, realized in France during the latter half of the 20th Century. The work features an arrangement of objects on a plane, presumably a table. Fabric, appearing to be drapes in a sumptuous copper hue, gathers the right edge of the composition next to a perfume bottle with a bulbous base that tapers to a elegantly attenuated neck in a vibrant lime green hue with stylized foliate detailing in azure. The perfume bottle also offers an umber hued atomizer. Moving from right to left, there is a half circular bowl with an abstracted white...
