About the Item
PARROTS AND FLOWERS is an original hand drawn lithograph by the renowned Chinese born artist Walasse Ting (DING XIONGQUAN, Chinese, 1929-2010) printed on archival Somerset printmaking paper 100% acid free . Ting's use of bold colors and expressive calligraphic brush drawn forms convey vivid life energy. He is well known for his colorful images of women, flowers, fish, parrots and horses and was associated with artists Karel Appel, Asger Jorn, and Pierre Alechinsky, members of the avant-garde group called COBRA. Throughout his artistic life, Ting imbued his passion and spirit into his paintings, poetry and sculpture. PARROTS AND FLOWERS is a freely expressed Chinese ink brush still-life composition of colorful flowers, parrots and plums. A light blue cylinder vase filled with magenta and purple Anemone blossoms serve as a background with a pair of vibrantly colored tropical parrots capturing the viewers attention. PARROTS AND FLOWERS exemplifies Ting's love of nature and color with its combination of pink, florescent lime yellow, periwinkle blue, magenta, purple, red, and shades of green.

“ When I see a beautiful woman I see flowers. Its beauty makes me feel intangible, melancholy, love, refreshed, different and reborn. I want to use different colors to express my inner feelings and emotions in my paintings. I’ve spent all my life painting, to express a sense of freshness just like a new spring. Women, cats, flowers, and birds in my paintings all represent the beauty in that freshness.”
About the Artist - Walasse Ting was born in Shanghai, China in 1929. In 1953 Walasse moved to Paris where he met contemporary artists such as Pierre Alechinsky, Asger Jorn and Karel Appel. While in Paris he also became affiliated with the artistic group COBRA, which was formed by Appel, Jorn and others to promote the avant-garde art movement. In 1963 he left Paris and resettled in New York City, and there he met other artists such as Sam Francis, Tom Wesselman and Claes Oldenberg. During the 1960s, Walasse's style developed from one of expressionism to pop-art, often depicting nude women painted in bright, vibrant color schemes. In 1970 Walasse won the Guggenheim Fellowship Award for drawing.

Walasse Ting
Walasse Ting was a Chinese-American visual artist and poet. His colorful paintings have attracted critical admiration and a popular following. Common subjects include nude women and cats, birds and other animals.
Ting was born in Shanghai in 1929. He left China in 1946 and lived for a while in Hong Kong, then settled in Paris in 1952. There, he associated with artists such as Karel Appel, Asger Jorn, and Pierre Alechinsky, members of the avant-garde group, CoBrA.
In 1957, Ting moved to the United States, and settled in New York, where his work was influenced by Pop art and Abstract Expressionism. He began primarily as an abstract artist, but the bulk of his work since the mid-1970s has been described as popular "figuratism," with broad areas of color painted with a Chinese brush and acrylic paint. He lived in Amsterdam in the 1990s, but regularly moved between there and New York.
Ting is the author of 13 books, including All in My Head (Walasse Ting & Roland Topor, 1974) and One Cent Life (E.W Kornfeld, 1964), a portfolio of 62 original lithographs by 28 artists, including Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, Tom Wesselmann, James Rosenquist, Asger Jorn, Pierre Alechinsky, Karel Appel, Kiki Kogelnik, Joan Mitchell and Sam Francis.
Ting won the Guggenheim Fellowship Award for drawing in 1970. His works can be found in the permanent collections of many museums worldwide, including the Guggenheim Museum, New York; Museum of Modern Art, New York; Art Institute of Chicago; Tate Modern, London; Centre Pompidou, Paris; and the Hong Kong Museum of Art, among others. He was sometimes referred to by his Chinese name "丁雄泉" or its various romanizations: Ding Xiongquan or Ting Hsiung-ch'uan.

Alessandro Nastasio was born in Milan in 1934. In 1952 he followed the “free school of the nude” led by Aldo Salvatori. In 1960 he attended the Atelier of Giorgio Upilio where Giacometti, Lam, Fontana, De Chirico worked and where he had the opportunity to study the themes of the inspiring myths. He worked at the MAF foundry with the master Tullio Figini who shared the secrets of the lost wax Renaissance fusion and where he met the masters Crocetti, Manfrini, Manzu , Minguzzi, Fabbri,. He then moved on to Quinto de Stampi at the De Andreis foundry where Marino Marini, Pomodoro, Rudy Wach, Strebelle, Negri and Rosental operated. A regular reader of the great sapienzal texts of antiquity, he trained in particular on the Bible which he illustrated with woodcuts, aquatints, etchings and linocuts, especially the Song of Songs, the book of Ecclesiastes and several pages of the Gospels He also drew his inspiration from the philosophical-religious tradition of the Eastern world through the reading of Rig-Veda, Upanisad and the Matnavi of Rumi. In 1966-67 he obtained the chair at the Academy of Fine Arts of Brera and for thirty years he devoted himself to the teaching of Art Education in various schools.
Nastasio created works both pictorial and plastic in collaboration with famous architects such as: Figini and Pollini, De Carli, Gardella, Faranda, Selleri, Ponti. His great talent soon came to the attention of various art dealers: first Max G...
