About the Item
La Française is a very old company (1889) which has contributed to the development of the bicycle in France and in the world, both by the diversity of its models and by the fame of the riders who have raced with them.
In 1890, Pierre-Victor Besse and François Trépier created the company La Française in Paris, a manufacturer of velocipedes and spare parts. La Française also manufactured motorcycles and cars.
The Diamant brand appeared in 1895. It is represented by 5 diamonds on the frame plate. Diamant as the shape of the diamond frame. In 1924, Edmond Gentil became the main shareholder of La Française, and the victories followed, in 1911, La Française won Paris-Brest-Paris again with Emile Georget.
After the First World War, in 1919, La Française became part of the consortium La Sportive, a grouping of many French brands.
In 1923 the company Alcyon bought La Française but continued to produce bicycles of the brand.
We will see the brand racing until 1955.
With such a name, the advertising iconography is not left out, the women are wearing Phrygian caps and the men parade with tricolored jerseys!

1911 original poster for La Bicyclette - Le Globe - early 20th-century cycling
Located in PARIS, FR
The 1911 original poster for La Bicyclette - Le Globe is a remarkable testament to the early 20th-century cycling culture and the rise of competitive sports marketing. Created to promote the Le Globe bicycle brand, this poster emphasizes its association with significant cycling achievements, including victories in prestigious races like the Tour de France 1910 and 1911 and the grueling Paris-Brest-Paris 1911.
Cycling was rapidly gaining popularity in Europe during this era, not only as a mode of transportation but as a competitive sport that captured the imagination of the public. The poster highlights Le Globe bicycles’ durability and superior design, attributing their performance to technological advancements such as the Eadie freewheel, Hans Renold chain, and Bowden brakes. These innovations are prominently mentioned as key factors behind the brand's success in overcoming the rigors of demanding races.
Victories by riders using Le Globe bicycles are proudly celebrated in the poster, with detailed references to stage wins in the Tour de France and the extraordinary records set during the Paris-Brest-Paris race. The detailed text serves as both a chronicle of accomplishments and an endorsement of the brand’s reliability and superiority.
The typographic design, typical of early 20th-century posters, conveys authority and credibility while catering to an audience eager for both sporting news and technical innovation. This promotional piece stands as an enduring relic of an era when cycling was not just a sport but a symbol of progress and industrial ingenuity.
Today, the La Bicyclette - Le Globe poster...

Late 19th Century French Vintage "Cycles Andru" Poster
Located in Dallas, TX
Decorate a game room or exercise room with this large and colorful antique Belle Epoque poster! Created by artist Dourzinelle circa 1890 for Andru Cycles, the wonderfully made stone lithograph features an elegantly dressed woman in the center foreground of the image. A winding road extends out behind her, with fields and the outline of a town in the background, creating a picturesque country scene. The use of both realistic details and fluid curving lines coupled with bold block typography creates a classically Belle Epoque period advertising poster.
This poster has been professionally linen backed. Virtually all original vintage posters of this era were viewed as temporary advertising and were printed on fragile, thin paper. While expensive, linen backing is a conservation method used to mount, stabilize, preserve, and protect vintage posters so they can be displayed or framed without compromising value...
