Set of 2 Antique Prints of Parrots, Lories and other Birds
Located in Langweer, NL
The two images for sale are intricate illustrations of various species of parrots, rendered in a style that's characteristic of the 19th-century scientific prints. They are labeled in German with both common and scientific names, and appear to be plates from 'Naturgeschichte der Vögel' by Dr. A. B. Reichenbach, published in 1855. First Image Description 1. **Swindern's Lovebird (Swindern's Sperlingspapagei - Psittacula Swindernianus):** This small parrot sports a leaf-green body with a yellowish-green collar and a black chin. Its bill is dark, and the eyes are accentuated with white eye-rings. It has a short, yellowish-green tail. 2. **New Zealand Kaka (Der neuseeländische Nestor-Papagei - Nestor Hyppoliticus):** This parrot has predominantly brown feathers, with a red underbelly and a multicolored head, sporting bright red, orange, and yellow hues around its eyes and beak. 3. **Black Cockatoo (Der gestreifte schwarze Kakadu - Calyptorhynchus Stellatus):** Known for its black plumage with subtle stripes on the tail and hints of red in the tail feathers, this cockatoo has a strong beak and a crest that is less prominent than other cockatoos. 4. **Sulphur-crested Cockatoo (Der Kakadu mit gelber Haube - Plyctolophus Sulphureus):** With a striking sulfur-yellow crest and a predominantly white body, this bird is one of the more recognizable cockatoos, featuring a dark grey beak and circular patches of dark skin around its eyes. 5. **Rüsselpapagei (Micropsitta Pusio):** Unfortunately, there's no direct English translation or commonly accepted English name for "Rüsselpapagei". It's depicted with green plumage and blue accents on the tail. Second Image Description 1. **Crimson Rosella (Pennant's Lori - Platycercus Pennantii):** This parrot is known for its vibrant red and blue feathers, with a deep blue head and neck, red body and underparts, and dark blue tail and wing feathers. 2. **Budgerigar (Der wellige Papagei - Nanodes Undulatus):** Commonly known as a "budgie", this small parrot has green plumage with black scallop-like markings, a yellow face, and a blue tail. 3. **Cockatiel (Der australische Falkenkakadu - Nymphicus Hollandicus):** A small cockatoo with a distinctive yellow crest, grey body, and bright orange cheek patches. 4. **Pale-headed Rosella (Der blauköpfige Parrakitt - Platycercus Palliceups):** This bird features a pale blue head and neck, green upper parts, and a cream to yellowish underbelly with a red breast band. 5. **Red-bellied Parrot (Der blauscheitelige Sperlingspapagei - Psittacus Formosus):** A parrot characterized by its green plumage, red belly, and a blue crown. 6. **Ground Parrot...
