About the Item

Alain LOVATO (born in 1943) Preparatory sculpture for the monumental “Signal oblique” project (Lyon, Parc de la Cerisaie), circa 1980 White, red and ochre lacquered polychrome steel Signed and countersigned Height: 45 cm Paint chips and minor wear Originally from Lyon, Alain Lovato is particularly active in the Rhône-Alpes region where his monumental metal works decorate public spaces. He began exhibiting in various salons from 1962 (Salon des Réalités Nouvelles, Salon d'Automne) and in galleries and art centres throughout Europe and the United States. As a self-taught visual artist, Alain Lovato designs sculptures made of folded, assembled and painted metal surfaces. To date, he has realized about fifty monumental sculptures, both public and private. In the years 1970-1990, Alain Lovato's work contributed to the emergence of large-scale artistic projects on the scale of Greater Lyon. The art critics René Déroudille and André Mure played an important role in promoting the integration of local contemporary art in the public space. The Sculpture Symposia, organized between 1978 and 1982, also testify to this desire to exhibit art outside the museum by integrating it into urban planning and daily life. The work we propose is preparatory to the monumental sculpture Signal Oblique created by Alain Lovato for the 1980 symposium. It is now kept in the Parc de la Cerisaie in Lyon where it is next to the works of various contemporary artists such as César.
