About the Item

B'Still Life, Anda Klancic, hand-controlled, machine-embroidered lace, cotton, synthetic, metal threads, 23" x 42", 1996-2020. "The tactility of the interweaving in the fibrous works I create, like their transparency and coloring, are subordinate to reflection, message and sensitivity, and to addressing the visual play of perception between the mimetic and the abstract. The variegated textile body implied by the title “Em-braced by Nature”, represents the decomposing, died-away leaf, shaped in a narrative, transparent human shell. This work tries to tell the history of clothes in which humans have used natural fibers to cover the body The work attempts to express, in a simple form, the relationship between humanity and nature. The sensitivity towards the ecological aspects of nature are crystallized in the body form which, created partially by burned-out lace, is patterned after a woman's body. Though a small work, it involves the contemplation on the meaning of garments and produced by beauty, and appeals to a precisely handcrafted network of yarns, that looks like natural veins. With fragility, this work tries to allude to some unknown fears of the 21st Century. The expressive power of clothes attempts to make us think about the importance of the natural environment and the life." -- Klancic

Japanese Botany, Original Contemporary Abstract Mixed Media Textile Wall Hanging Artist Commentary: INSPIRED IN JAPANESE AESTHETICS Keywords: Abstract, Nature, patterns, circles, ovals, white Artist Biography: My artwork is engaged to nature and its recurrent patterns and rhythms. I use them as a base in order to create my compositions. I´m attracted to repetitive sequences, combining separate elements to form a cohesive group. It isn’t a strict conceptual idea of repetition on itself; my work doesn’t seek to impose an order or structure, but rather to enjoy the rhythm of repetition. Silk and paper have the softness and malleability that I need in order to create my desired forms, shapes and even shadows. The process to carry out my work is thorough and methodical. I choose as materials small and simple elements; such as feathers made out of paper and silk and then organized in a precise order. This allows me to build a group of entities that end up being the final artwork. My goal is to create projects that inspire, connect and touch people emotionally, taking the viewer on a journey through different ethereal, botanical and peaceful landscapes. I was Born in Santiago, Chile in 1973. I grew up surrounded by Chilean...

Textile Wall Art: Waiting for Godol'
By Judy Rushin-Knopf
Located in New York, NY
This piece is from a new body of work called 'Vital Signs’ which will premiere at Ivy Brown Gallery in NYC and springs from the domain of hospitals and illness through combinations of hand-woven and tufted textiles and minimalist box-like objects that hang on walls or embed in the textiles themselves. The textiles refer to items of worn clothing, flattened identity, and superstition that come with illness and extended hospital stays. Their dominant color is blue, a hue known to calm the nervous system, but also the color of a failing body (cyanosis). The black and white objects...

Based in Barcelona, we specialize in shaping unique pieces through a fusion of culture, architecture, and contemporary art. Founded 14 years ago, ELIURPI originally gained recognition for our sculptural hats. Over time, our artistic scope has broadened to encompass sculptures and art-design pieces. Recently, we showcased our latest creations at the Milan Fair, including an individual exhibition at Palazzo Litta titled "Shadows and Poems," inspired by Junichiro Tanizaki’s "In Praise of Shadows," which extols chiaroscuro as the pinnacle of beauty. Raffia served as the central material uniting all exhibited pieces, creating a harmonious narrative throughout the exhibition space. Our professional and personal lives intertwine, enriching our distinctive artistic language that blends cultural traditions with contemporary aesthetics. We draw inspiration from the interplay of light and shadow, while craftsmanship, creativity, and integrity guide our use of natural materials such as wood, straw, raffia, linen, and silk. Notable milestones include our ongoing exhibitions during ARCO week in Madrid, as well as appearances in international art galleries and craft biennials. In 2023, our work "Sculptural Head Object...
