About the Item

This contemporary glass wall sculpture was created by Cheryl Wilson Smith. The artist is known for her ethereal glass pieces that are often inspired by the rugged natural beauty that surrounds her home in northern Ontario. This series explores a different narrative that symbolizes life’s joys and challenges. The luminous, dynamic composition features sixty-two blown clear glass bubbles; some inflated, others deflated and pierced by iron nails. Light naturally shines through the glass forming shadows as the bubbles appear to float across the wall. The title refers to a popular colloquial expression. “This work is a reminder to each of us who are confronted by the opinions and criticisms of others to consider those perspectives but to always stay true to our beliefs and follow our dreams. These dreams are important and valuable.” Cheryl Wilson Smith Cheryl Wilson Smith was the 2014 winner of the RBC Award for Glass through the Canadian Clay and Glass Gallery. Wilson-Smith has received nine grants from the Ontario Arts Council and one from the Canada Council. Commissions include the Red Lake District Heritage Centre and Margaret Cochenor Memorial Hospital Donor Wall. Her work has been exhibited widely across Canada, the UK, and the US.
