About the Item

This large fun, colourful interactive sculpture is a fully functioning swing designed by the Japanese born artist Natsuki Takauji. Now living in New York, Natsuki is known for her imaginative art that often incorporates industrial elements in a natural setting. Windows 2 is the second in a series of sculptural ‘swings’ housed within a metal frame shaped like a giant dome. The sculpture's two metal walls are built from a jigsaw pattern of geometric pieces of coloured clear acrylic in grey, blues, greens and reds, bright fabrics in turquoise and orange as well as painted perforated metal. Visitors are invited to sit and swing; the views through the acrylic dome-shaped windows playing with their perception as they look and fly past the panels. The first 'Windows' swing was installed in a park overlooking the Hudson River in NYC. “Through my public artwork, I engage with the public by giving interactive experiences and often challenging ideas about perception.” Natsuki Takauji She studied visual and literal art at The Art Students League of New York, and Waseda University in Tokyo, Japan. She is an instructor at The Art Students League of New York, a co-founder of The Artist Gardener NYC designed to activate communities through art and educational programs in public gardens, and a director of Metal Sculptures at Sculptors Alliance, Inc. Natsuki has exhibited in New York, New Jersey, Florida and at the Venice Biennale in Italy. Her work is held in both private and public collections in the U.S. and Canada.
