No.090924 is an abstract sculpture in wood by French sculptor Thierry Martenon. This large, oval-shaped sculpture subtly intertwines wooden geometric forms, evoking a sense of movement. The artist burned and brushed the surface to texturize it.
In this work, the artist burnt the surface of the wood with a blowtorch, purely for aesthetic reasons. He particularly appreciates this technique because it reveals an intense, silky black colour: “Burning the wood produces very deep blacks and this always reveals the texture of the wood, the deep nature of the wood“.
Thierry Martenon’s sculptures are characterised by their clean, simple lines, harmonious, flowing forms and refined, meticulously crafted textures. His artistic approach is profoundly aesthetic and based on remarkable technical mastery. His creations embody timeless elegance, while demonstrating a constant quest for renewal and originality. The artist does not name his works; he prefers to number them according to the year they were created.
