About the Item

Carter’s work often morphs the human figure with animal, creating mythological creatures and extraordinary fictional compositions. Her work explores themes of duality, transformation, power and vulnerability, much of which can be read metaphorically. Animals are incorporated into her bronze sculptures for their symbolic value, which are then often merged with human forms to become a hybrid. Bulls, birds, horses, monkeys, wolves and deers all are personally symbolic for Carter, as well as being universally and historically entwined in human myths and storytelling. Carter states ‘I am fascinated by the poetic power certain animals have in our psyches…' Her work is held in private collections across Europe, UK, USA, Canada, South America, Asia and Australia and in the permanent collections of the Musée d’Art Classique de Mougins, France, the Muskegon Museum of Art, Michigan, USA and the New Salem Museum and Academy of Fine Art, MA, USA.

Apollo

"The most Greek of all the gods, in art the ideal type of young, but not immature, manly beauty. A master musician, archer, healer, and prophet, he is the god of light and the god of truth. The rugged, strong, masculinity of the stone - its unique character - suggested Apollo to me." - Anita Huffington Quote from the monograph "Anita Huffington," Photographs by David Finn...
