About the Item

“Nero’s Banquet” from the series ”The day after” Bocquel fondeur. Edition of 8 ex. Signed/Numbered by the artist. Free shipment worldwide. Acquired directly from the artist. Arman wrote, “The bow on the strings releases an explosion of sounds,” in the book Trio à cordes published by GKM Siwert Bergström nearly twenty years ago. The words are his own. The book is a tender homage to music and expresses the artist’s predilection for the tones of violin, cello and double bass. Lyrically orchestrated poems are conflated with ingenious detail images: multi-coloured violins and a delicately painted cello are but two of the motifs drawn against the straight lines of the score. The first steps towards collaboration with GKM Siwert Bergström came with an exhibition in Malmö, when Arman staged a “happening” in Malmö Concert Hall. This was followed by several exhibitions in Malmö, at the Stockholm Art Fair, at FIAC in Paris and at the Glyptoteket in Copenhagen. Contacts with GKM subsequently led to an exhibition of Arman’s works at the Lund Konsthall gallery with the support of Marianne Nanne-Bråhammar. This also included a happening. Arman died in October 2005 at the age of 76. For the last 30 years of his life he maintained two homes and studios, in New York and in Vence, in the south of France.

Brutalist Forged Iron Circular Menorah Sculpture Israeli Master David Palombo
By David Palombo
Located in Surfside, FL
Hand Forged Iron Candelabra Holocaust Memorial Judaic Menorah Sculpture David Palombo was an Israeli sculptor and painter. He was born in Turkey to a traditional family and immigrated to the Land of Israel with his parents in 1923. They lived in the Nahalat Shiva neighborhood of Jerusalem. In 1940 he began his studies at Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design, and from 1942 was a student of sculptor Ze’ev Ben-Zvi. For a period of time, Palombo was an assistant at Ben-Zvi’s studio and also taught at Bezalel. During this period he was also a member of the “Histadrut HaNoar HaOved VeHaLomed” (The General Federation of Students and Young Workers in Israel). In the 1940s he took art lessons at night. In 1948 he went to Paris, where he visited the studio of the sculptor Constantin Brancusi whose work influenced him. Around 1958 he married the artist Shulamit Sirota. In 1960 he quit his job to devote himself to art. In 1964 he married for the second time to the artist Yona Palombo. The two of them went to live in an abandoned home on Mount Zion in Jerusalem. In 1966 he was killed when the motorcycle on which he was riding ran into a chain stretched across the street to prevent the desecration of Shabbat. His widow opened a museum in their home that was active until the year 2000. Work by Palombo is included in the Judaic collection of the Jewish Museum (a well known Hanukkah menora). Palombo executed the impressive metal gates of the Tent of Remembrance at the Yad Vashem, the memorial to the martyrs of the holocaust, as well as the gates to the Knesset Building the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (Unesco award) awarded him a scholarship for study in Japan. He worked in marble, granite, bronze, iron and steel. as well as with glass mosaic tiles. Palombo’s early works, in the 1950s, were influenced by modernist sculptors such as Brancusi. These works were composed of abstract images from nature and were carved out of stone or wood. At the end of the 1950s he began making metal sculptors, using the technique of welding. His work took on a more abstract and expressive character. Abstract sculpture: 'Because We're Here''
By Tony Moore
Located in New York, NY
My work is concerned with the relationship of humanity and nature. I conceive of an expanded concept of “Nature” as embodying all existence, both the seen and unseen, socio-political events, daily occurrences, as well as private intuitions that are made concrete through creative action. My objects are places of remembrance where multiplicities of associations take place. Most recently these have been concerned with issues of the human condition. “In recent ceramic Fire Paintings and Sculptures abstracted figures, made from cut twigs, are impressed into wet clay. As I investigated, the figures kept running, fleeing, tumbling, searching, moving away from and towards something else. They moved across landscapes, towards glowing buildings/edifices, systemized structures/societies, which both beckoned them and somehow dominated them. The figures were present, yet also in spirit form, floating and dissolving in diaphanous light and shimmering waters. Twigs became, fathers, mothers and children. They became surrogates, rather like a small child’s dolls, playing out a deeply psychological fiction of desperately moving toward “something”. Something hopeful, yet presently out of reach. Something eternally becoming …” Tony Moore is an English-American sculptor and painter represented in international museum collections including the Guggenheim Museum, Brooklyn Museum, Greenville Museum, San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts, Woodstock Artists Association & Museum, Art Museum of the U. of Memphis and ASU Art Museum, US and the Yorkshire Museum and Derby Museum, UK. He received a MFA in Sculpture from Yale University and is the recipient of prestigious awards, including a Louis Comfort Tiffany Award...
