Aurelio Mistruzzi was an Italian sculptor and medalist.
He attended the Udine School of Art with professor sculptor De Paoli. He then enrolled in the Venice Academy and shortly after moved to Milan to follow evening classes at the Brera Academy.
In 1908 he attended the school of Medal Engraving in Rome. In 1914 he was assigned the important commission for the sculpted decorations of the Town Hall building in Udine, which he carried out together with Raimondo D'Aronco, with monumental sculptural groups dedicated to civil and political virtues (The victory of labour; Labour; Unity and strength; Venice and The Third Italy; Empire and Patriarchy). He also undertook private commissions, in particular in the field of funerary statuary.
In the early 1920’s he also worked profusely in the field of medal and coin engraving. He signed Pope Pius 11th’s coins and part of those issued by Pope Pius 12th.
Remarkable also his production in civil and secular work, amongst which we mention the beautiful Fountain of Frogs in Monza.
One of his last works is the Monument to General Trujillo in Santo Domingo.
He died in Rome in 1960.

This artwork - born on a project realized by the artist in the 1930's and manufactured posthumous - represents a sensual nude woman who symbolizes the hospitality. Delightful creation by the great Italian painter Orfeo Tamburi.
He firstly embraced the principles of the Roman School, from which he matured an evocative language with warm chromatic intonations that found favorite themes in portraits and urban views. After a trip to Paris where he discovered the painting of Cèzanne, the artist began a long friendship with Giuseppe Ungaretti, the director Marcello Pagliaro and Curzio Malaparte...

ANCIENT RARE BRONZE FIGURE OF DIONYSOS (BACCHUS) ROMAN EMPIRE 1ST CENTURY AD
Located in Milan, IT
This bronze sculpture is an exquisitely detailed representation of the god Dionysos, whose cult was one of the most popular in ancient times. Here, the god is nude, with a mantle that gently lies on his right leg. He is holding a bunch of grapes with his left hand, and a rhyton (drinking horn) with the right. The god is youthful and joyfully gazes forwards, with a crown of ivy leaves set upon his long flowing hair.
These features clearly resemble those of the life-size Roman marble sculpture of Dionysos exhibited at the British Museum, acc. no. 1861,0725.2 .
This statuette was probably part of a larger composition and used as a decorative element applied to a piece of furniture. Its finely wrought details, as well as the attractive olive-green patina led to its inclusion in the collection of the Fitchburg Art Museum for thirty years.
