David Lipson
"Edwards" - Found Object Assemblage Robot Sculpture, 2025

2025

About the Item

David Lipson's "Edwards" (2025) is a striking found-object assemblage sculpture that reimagines mechanical components into a humanoid form. Standing 26.5 inches tall, this meticulously crafted piece fuses vintage industrial elements, including a repurposed electrical meter as the torso, metallic coils forming the limbs, and canisters elegantly supporting the figure. The sculpture embodies a nostalgic yet futuristic aesthetic, reminiscent of early robotics and steampunk influences. David Lipson assembles robot sculptures from varying materials old and new, with some parts manufactured as early as the beginning of the 20th century. Many of the parts used often show wear and tear and patinas from their decades of use, and which add to the vintage look and feel that Lipson works to achieve with his work. Robot assembly is achieved with nuts and bolts. There is no welding. These robots are not built as toys and are for artistic display only. They are not to be given to small children, and should be handled with care. ABOUT David Lipson assembles one-of-a-kind robot sculptures from random objects. He has sold over 900 of them to date, and they reside on every continent, except Antarctica . His robots have been featured in museums, galleries, books and on television. Previously, David spent 17 years as a producer of animation for film and television. Select credits include: “The Venture Bros” (Cartoon Network), “Saturday Night Live” (NBC), “The Howard Stern Show” (CBS), “Lizzie McGuire” (Disney), “School House Rock” (Disney), and “Word World“ (PBS).
