About the Item

Juárez, a renowned self-taught Mexican sculptor, displays his expressive depiction of animals and humans in our Caballo con Jinete Viendo las Estrellas (Horse with Rider Seeing the Stars). A marvelous and expressive sculpture for any style room. Perfect size for a table. The white marble base sets the black patina bronze off and the sculptor has allowed for nice texture in the bronze - you can feel the hand of the artist. Horses, along with bulls, symbolize strength, vitality, and a connection to rural Mexican life, themes deeply rooted in Juárez’s own experiences growing up around livestock and aspiring to be a bullfight. Although Juárez depicts horses in many of his sculptures, his animal figures are never repetitive – each rendered with unique character and movement. As the title suggests, this is a contemplative scene, with the rider gazing at the stars – possibly evoking the bond between human and nature. The artist signals this connection as both the rider and the horse look towards the heavens in search of the stars. Juárez drew inspiration from pre-Hispanic Mexican art, as well as from classical and modern sculptors such as Henry Moore, Picasso, and Rodin. His self-taught background and life experiences as a bullfighter deeply informed his artistic vision. Joie De Vivre, bronze figurative dance sculpture
Located in Greenwich, CT
This joyous in the round bronze can turn on its base, making for dramatic presentation and enjoyment that is interactive. It is based on the idea of the Three Graces which is often an allegorical subject in sculpture. Wein has done a contemporary feeling interpretation of this classic theme. Piece itself measure 12 1/2 inches and sits on a 3 1/4 inch base and is attached to its base at two points and it is a revolving or rather turning base. The two points on which the toes touch and are secured are striking for how little of the bronze touches the base. It is Fourth in an edition of 13. Albert Wein...
