Ivan Zanoni
Thistle with butterfly and an ant - Wrought iron sculpture

2025

About the Item

The thistle symbolises endurance, inner strength and perseverance in adversity. Although covered with thorns, the thistle produces flowers of extraordinary beauty, making it a symbol of the duality of pain and beauty. Artist Ivan Zanon gives the final touch of lightness by adding a butterfly that has just landed on top. An industrious ant emerges from one of the fleshy leaves. Characteristics: Sculpture for indoor or outdoor use Origin: Italy Material: Wrought iron, unique proof Condition: New Information about the artist: Born and resident in Caldes (Trentino, Italy), Zanoni inherited his passion from his father, Luciano Zanoni, a blacksmith who was internationally appreciated for his art. His collectors include Bill Gates, who commissioned him to create a monumental four-metre olive tree sculpture, now on display at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation in Seattle. Ivan Zanoni stands out for his mastery in creating a natural universe of wonder. Specializing in the forging of animals, in recent years his attention has turned to small insects and wild herbs, assembling vivid compositions in the metal material. Together and individually, the Zanoni family has held numerous solo and institutional exhibitions in Italy, France and Greece, with strong interest from collectors especially in the USA, UK and Australia.
