About the Item
Sylwia Jakubowska-Szycik is professor at the Academy of Fine Arts at the Faculty of Sculpture and Intermedia in Gdańsk, she conducts classes in the field of sculpture and intermedia.
Material: polished polyester resin, coated with powdered aluminum.
The aluminum layer is not protected by any varnish, it is only rubbed into the resin. This means that the touching person may leave traces on the surface, in the form of fingerprints, hand prints, etc., and this is also what happens after each exhibition. Aluminum can oxidize in these places, it becomes gray and dark. Such a process was the premise of this thesis and no surface protection will work. The aluminum will either lose its shine, more likely to oxidize over the entire surface and be a dark gray color.
If you want to keep the color you should only touch the sculpture with gloves, should traces arise with the aluminum powder treated again
The sculpture does not have a separate base, it stands directly on the floor with its feet.
"The creation is an ongoing observation and reaction to reality, to what I see, what I listen to, an emotional response. It all happens through the prism of day-to-day life. This is where the impulses come from, hence the material and forms, hence the working methods and this is where my place of work can be found. I called it the strategy of practical day-to-day life. It all comes according to the rhythm of life with its most basic needs. With the personal needs of my family and those for whom I am responsible. Treating creative activity as one of these fundamental needs became a natural consequence of my choices. Art has set itself in line with many other things and tasks, it has become a component of the organism that I co-create."

Sylwia Jakubowska-Szycik
Sylwia Jakubowska-Szycik was born in 1974 in Lublin; she has lived and worked in Gdańsk for many years. In 1996–2001 she studied at the Faculty of Sculpture of the Academy of Fine Arts in Gdańsk, diploma in 2001 at the Sculpture Studio of Professor Stanisław Radwański. In 2010 she obtained her doctorate with a dissertation: The Need of a Master. She works as an professor in the sculpture studio. Since 2001, she has participated in many group and several individual exhibitions. She is involved in sculpture, installation, fabric and drawing. In her projects, she uses various everyday objects, castings, which she usually finds in her immediate surroundings. It limits the means of expression to a minimum while ensuring the substantive layer, readability of the recipient's artistic form and aesthetic impressions. She often modifies older works, using them to create entirely new meanings. Her realizations' multi-element characterization allows creating multiple arrangements and building new meanings depending on the presentation's space or context.

Cindy Avroch is a multi-talented artist who began her career by following in her mother’s footsteps. Cindy’s first love was always drawing, painting and sculpting, although Cindy is also a trained dancer. While other little girls could be seen carrying Barbie dolls around, Cindy would be juggling a sketchbook, pencils and an eraser in her hands. Among her earlier accomplishments, she received a degree in textile design from the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City, and a scholarship to study at Winchester School of Art in England.
Cindy worked for many years as a studio artist and then an art director in New York City’s fashion industry. Her designs were in major department stores and specialty shops nationwide. Working directly with The Walt Disney Co., Warner Bros., United Media and Nickelodeon, she created licensed print collections for the men’s, women’s and children’s markets. Her unique approach and vision, combined with her philosophy to diversify her modes of expression, enabled her to create and to direct her team to develop fashion collections that tripled sales.
She left the fashion industry to care for her special needs son and found herself a stay- at-home mom for the first time. Soon afterwards, she launched a new venture from home, designing fine art lighting...
