About the Item

Pair of Horses in Bronze Grand Tour Sculpture Early 1800s rampant horse figures of Italian origin, dark patina bronze castings resting on wooden bases, turned, tiered, and shaped in gilded wood. In excellent condition, these animalier sculptures come from a private collection. The measurements of the two figures are slightly different, the largest being in cm : 19.5 high x 14 wide x 6.5 deep. The bronze figures alone, excluding the base, are 15 cm high. The dynamic appeal of these ancient horse sculptures from the neoclassical period is remarkable, the plasticity of the pose with raised front legs masterfully reflecting the energetic vigor and temperament of these animals. Queste sculture potrebbero essere state realizzate come ricordo di un viaggio o come souvenir artistico. They are typical examples of the classical art and taste for ancient sculptures that were popular with travelers during the Grand Tour. Le sculture potrebbero rappresentare un cavallo da guerra e un cavallo da corsa, o semplicemente due maestosi destrieri. They are works of art of great historical and artistic value, reflecting the interest in classical culture and the beauty of antiquity during the period of the Grand Tour. To export an antique art object from Italy, an export license called BELLE ARTI must be applied for from the Italian Ministry of Cultural Heritage. the issuance of such a government license takes a couple of weeks or so, to be added to the order's shipping time.
