About the Item
Canadian sculptor WW Hung has chosen another poignant and powerful pose to explore the human condition in this contemporary mixed-media piece.
A nude male sits on the edge of a child-like see-saw plank, tied or ‘tethered’ to the wheel that it rests on. The figure’s pose expresses vulnerability, his face downcast. The plank he balances on is supported by the pivot point (the wheel)—the fulcrum or center. It appears that the ‘scales’ could tip at any moment throwing the figure off balance. The tension in the piece is palpable. One of nine editions.

Hung studied architecture at the University of Waterloo where he earned a Bachelor of Environmental Studies and a Bachelor of Architecture in 1997. After graduation, Hung relocated to New York City and practiced architecture there and in Toronto for a number of years. In 2004, he became a member of the American Institute of Architects. He also began creating sculptural works in a unique combination of the figurative and the abstract. In 2015, Hung joined the Sculptors Society of Canada. Hung’s work is held in private collections in Canada, France and the US.

W.W. Hung (b. Hong Kong) establishes poignant human narratives in cast bronze and resin. His dynamic figures possess powerful spatial presence despite often being intimate in scale.
