KAWS GONE KAWS BFF Companions (set of 2 works)

2017-2019

About the Item

KAWS GONE Black & KAWS Black BFF Companions (set of 2 works 2017-2019): Medium: Vinyl paint & Cast Resin (applies to each work). Published 2017 & 2019, respectively. GONE: 14.25 x 7 inches. BFF: 13 x 5.7 inches. Each new, never displayed; accompanied by original packaging. Each from a sold out edition of unknown. KAWS GONE: "GONE is the artist’s inaugural show upon joining Skarstedt Gallery, debuting four large-scale bronze sculptures... New insights to KAWS’s ideology also reveal themselves in the curation of paintings, which, unique to this body of work, feature a slightly different color palette – viewers are brought to exalt in rich earthy tones: deep green, burgundy, moss, teal, and pops of neon yellow. Experiencing GONE offers endless parallels that one can draw between the paintings and bronzes; moments of witnessing and hiding, moments of bravery and resignation, and the subsequent paradox of emotions." (source: Skarstedt Gallery) KAWS BFF: A well-received work and variation of KAWS' large scale BFF sculpture exhibited in Los Angeles's Playa Vista neighborhood, Bangkok's Central Embassy & more recently on 280 Park Ave in New York City. KAWS is a multi-faceted artist straddling the worlds of art and design in his prolific body of work that ranges from paintings, murals, and large-scale sculptures to product design and toy-making. His iconic “XX” signature has its roots in the beginning of his career as a street artist in the 1990s, when he began altering found advertisements by incorporating his own masterful paintings. Evoking the sensibilities of Pop artists like Andy Warhol, Keith Haring and Claes Oldenburg, KAWS possesses a sophisticated humor and thoughtful interplay with consumer products and collaborations with global brands. He often draws inspiration and appropriates from popular culture animations to form a unique artistic vocabulary and influential cast of hybrid cartoon and human characters.
