Throughout his artistic career, Yoshiro Ikeda (1947-2014) has drawn inspiration from his surroundings and experiences. His works reflect the organic aspects of nature, the ever-changing weather, and the art of dancing. Form and surface are woven together, creating an endless line of movement that captivates the viewer's eye and provokes curiosity. In recent years, Yoshiro's work has predominantly been handbuilt, although he continues to incorporate wheel-thrown elements. Handbuilding provides a sense of freedom and possibility, with the asymmetrical aspects presenting the eternal challenge of achieving balance, harmony, and beauty.

"My fascination with pottery comes from my desire to make art and to produce something that is not only functional but visually appealing. Porcelain allows me stretch and shape the clay in any way I choose and offers a blank canvas for my floral imagery and luscious, rich glazes to blend. The forms I create are tight and precise with a sense of restricted volume. I use bands around the form to constrict specific areas of each piece, while at the same time creating space for the volume and fullness to escape. The bands create registers to frame my drawings and paintings of floral imagery.
