- 1stDibs ExpertApril 26, 2024The four types of diamonds are natural, lab-grown, treated and natural fancy-colored. Natural diamonds are those derived from mines, while lab-grown diamonds are human-made. A treated diamond comes from a mine but then undergoes an enhancement process to improve its appearance. Diamonds in colors other than white that come from mines rather than laboratories are naturally fancy-colored. On 1stDibs, find a wide range of diamond jewelry.
- 1stDibs ExpertMay 3, 2024The four types of lighting are: ambient, task, accent and decorative. Ambient lighting, such as chandeliers and recessed ceiling lights, provides the main source of illumination. Task lighting, such as desk and table lamps, offers more focused illumination for performing certain tasks. Accent and decorative lighting highlight the details of a space while also creating mood and atmosphere. - 1stDibs ExpertApril 5, 2022A bed with four posts is called a four-poster bed. Many attach to awnings called canopies. Historical records trace the beds back to the 3rd century, but they became especially popular during the Middle Ages. Find a selection of antique and vintage four-poster beds on 1stDibs.
- 1stDibs ExpertMarch 22, 2022Today, the point of a four-poster bed is largely stylistic. People place them in bedrooms due to their elegant decorative appearance. Historically, four-poster beds featured heavy curtains that blocked light, preserved privacy and provided warmth in the winter. You'll find a selection of four-poster beds on 1stDibs.
- 1stDibs ExpertSeptember 25, 2019
The four basic methods of sculpture are molding, casting, carving and assembling.
- 1stDibs ExpertNovember 8, 2023What the four-heart chain means is open to interpretation. Many people think that four hearts grouped on a pendant resemble a four-leaf clover. As a result, the necklace is thought by some to symbolize good luck. Others associate it with love and romance. Find an assortment of heart necklaces on 1stDibs.
- 1stDibs ExpertApril 5, 2022The tester on a four poster bed is the canopy over the bed. It was usually made of wood and could be covered with cloth. Some people also don’t attribute any meaning to four hearts at all and just like their appearance. Shop a wide variety of heart necklaces on 1stDibs.
- 1stDibs ExpertApril 5, 2022Across the top of older four-poster beds was a wooden rail that was called the tester. The tester often held a rail where curtains were attached that could be pulled closed. Shop a collection of four-poster beds from some of the world’s top sellers on 1stDibs.

- 1stDibs ExpertNovember 13, 2024Picasso's four art periods are called the Blue period, the Rose period, the African-influenced period and the Cubist period. The Blue period coincided with the turn of the 20th century and included works like The Old Guitarist and The Blue Room. As its name suggests, this period was marked by Picasso's use of shades of blues and greens, which instilled in his paintings a sense of melancholy. Around 1905, Picasso entered his Rose period, adopting a brighter palette of oranges and pinks. Significant works from this time include Autoportrait à la palette and Garçon à la pipe. Many experts point to the 1907 painting Les Demoiselles d’Avignon as the start of Picasso's African-influenced period, during which Picasso employed a style inspired by Iberian and African tribal art. Picasso made many portraits in this style, most often of the women in his life, their expressively colored faces broken into geometric shards of surface planes. By the 1910s, this style had evolved into Cubism, with Picasso fragmenting his subjects into shapes. On 1stDibs, shop a variety of Pablo Picasso art.
- 1stDibs ExpertApril 5, 2022A four poster bed features four posts, one at each corner. A canopy bed also has four posts, one at each corner, but a canopy bed is covered with a cloth of some sort. They can look similar except for the canopy on top. However, canopy posts are often built differently than four poster beds so they can accommodate the fabric. Shop a collection of four poster and canopy beds from some of the world’s top sellers on 1stDibs.
