C Simpkin

Ron Simpkins — son of late Canadian watercolor specialist Henry Simpkins (1906–95) — was born in Montreal, Canada in 1942. He began painting at the young age of seven, a dream that would lead him on a path traveled by few professional Canadian landscape artists. Simpkins was known for his plein air landscapes and waterscapes. He attended the Ontario College of Art in 1963. He was widely traveled, as are his paintings, which today can be found in over 500 private and corporate collections throughout Canada, the United States, Europe, Australia and Brazil.

However, the women of Abstract Expressionism, such as Helen Frankenthaler, Lee Krasner, Joan Mitchell and others, were equally involved in the art world of the time. Sexism, family obligations and societal pressures contributed to a long history of their being overlooked, but the female Abstract Expressionists experimented vigorously, developed their own style and produced significant bodies of work.
