How Much are Seen On Fashion Influencers?
- How did Dali influence fashion?1 Answer1stDibs ExpertMarch 22, 2022Salvador Dalí influenced fashion through his collaborations with Elsa Schiaparelli that included elements of Surrealism. The pair used unusual prints, materials and embellishments to create designs unlike anything else produced at the time. One example is the silk A-line emblazoned with a lobster that Wallis Simpson wore in a 1937 issue of Vogue. On 1stDibs, shop a range of Salvador Dalí art.
- 1stDibs ExpertApril 5, 2022Stella McCartney has influenced fashion by partnering with other mainstream brands like H&M and Adidas and encouraging them to adopt more sustainable practices in fashion. Her leather-free and fur-free approach has had unprecedented success, propelling her to become an eco-friendly high-fashion mainstay. Be a part of the change and shop a collection of vintage and contemporary Stella McCartney clothing, bags and shoes from some of the world’s top boutiques on 1stDibs.
- 1stDibs ExpertMarch 20, 2024Vivienne Westwood’s influence on fashion is deep and broad-ranging.
Westwood was only in her early 20s when she was creating jewelry in London during the 1960s, and her career in fashion began to take shape in the 1970s. She was quickly recognized for her unconventional and edgy approach, and opened a vintage shop with like-minded artist Malcolm McLaren.
Westwood found herself at the forefront of punk rock, and as the culture gained steam and its musicians rose to fame, so too did her preference for checkered prints, biker styles and provocative messaging. Her work became the look of punk and she was soon dressing members of the Sex Pistols.
The first Vivienne Westwood and Malcolm McLaren show marked the debut of the Pirate Collection, a swashbuckler-themed line that sprang from Westwood’s research into Indigenous Americans and the “power garments” of the Louis XIV era (this collection heavily influenced the likes of John Galliano and Alexander McQueen). For the colorful corsets of her 1990 Portrait collection, Westwood drew on 18th-century oil paintings, and her models donned the pearl necklaces that have become a social media star and a favorite of influencers and fashion lovers all over the world.
Dubbed “the undisputed Queen of British fashion” by musician Boy George, the acclaimed, award-winning late designer bridged the gap between music and fashion in a manner that has reverberated for decades. Today, her namesake label is beloved for its long history of imaginative, unique designs.
Find vintage Vivienne Westwood clothing and accessories on 1stDibs. - 1stDibs ExpertFebruary 13, 2023The bright colors and graphic patterns and imagery of Pop art continue to influence fashion, prompting the industry’s designers to integrate provocative color pairings and visuals commonly associated with mass media and advertising into their garments. You can see examples of this in iconic pieces by Pierre Cardin, Mary Quant and Vivienne Westwood as well as in the work of many contemporary designers. Specifically, the well-known portraits that Andy Warhol created of celebrities and pop culture figures made their way into fashion by designers who incorporated images of popular celebrities into their clothing designs.
