Gary Morga, designer of the Yang lamp, was born in Edinburgh, Scotland in 1956. He studied Silversmithing and Metalwork at Camberwell School of Arts and Crafts, London. In 1986 he was invited to submit designs for the Memphis Milano Lights Exhibition, where he exhibited the NASTRO lamp. It was to be the last exhibition of the Memphis Milano group.

Among the more celebrated names in mid-century lighting design are Milanese innovators Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni, who, along with their eldest brother, Livio, worked for their own firm as architects and designers. While Livio departed the practice in 1952, Achille and Pier Giacomo would go on to design the Arco floor lamp, the Toio floor lamp and more for legendary lighting brands such as FLOS
