Green Barn Reflected - blue, landscape, abstracted, pop-art, acrylic on canvas
By Charles Pachter
Located in Bloomfield, ON
Charles Pachter’s love of barns has spanned decades. For the cherished Canadian contemporary artist the barn is a reminder of Canada’s strong rural roots and agricultural heritage. In this painting, the barn is a forest green; a colour that became popular after the 18th century invention of a paint pigment called ‘Paris green.’ The rich colours are enhanced by the reflection of the image in cool blue waters. The undulating borders blur the line between earth and sky. While Pachter has been much lauded as a pop artist often compared to David Hockney, Andy Warhol and Jim Dine, his charming imagery is distinctly his own. “Charles Pachter is the most Canadian artist this country has ever produced, including the Group of Seven. Charlie is a Group of One, and no one else can do what he does.” Leonard Wise, Author and Art Critic Pachter is an Officer of the Order of Canada, a Chevalier of France’s Ordres des Arts et des Lettres and twice a recipient of the Queen’s Jubilee...

Red Barn Green Field - landscape, abstracted, pop-art, acrylic on canvas
By Charles Pachter
Located in Bloomfield, ON
For Canadian pop artist Charles Pachter, the barn is one of the images that symbolizes his national pride. This vibrant red barn with its classic clean lines stands out against the backdrop of a brilliant blue sky and contrasts with the swatch of a green field in the foreground. The optical illusion of the painted frame on the canvas itself adds even more depth to the scene. Pachter has embraced the barn as a reminder of Canada’s early rural history; a nod to the strength and industriousness of the farming communities that helped shape his country. While Pachter has been much lauded as a pop artist often compared to David Hockney, Andy Warhol and Jim Dine, his charming imagery is distinctly his own. He is an Officer of the Order of Canada, a Chevalier of France’s Ordres des Arts et des Lettres and twice a recipient of the Queen’s Jubilee...

Sumach Moon - blue, orange, trees, moon, graphic, pop-art, landscape, acrylic
By Charles Pachter
Located in Bloomfield, ON
Charles Pachter returns to the Canadian wilderness for this painting. The internationally recognized pop artist has chosen to celebrate the sumach, a tree that is native to North America. Pachter’s sumach frames an orange harvest moon which appears in the fall. Farmers often use the light of this full moon to harvest their crops late into the night. Pachter’s moon is small and distant and the thin line of a lake and mountain in the background give the painting a greater depth of perspective. A painter, printmaker, sculptor, designer and author Pachter is a graduate of University of Toronto...

Charles Pachter "Mini Blue Barn"
By Charles Pachter
Located in Toronto, Ontario
Charles Pachter (b. 1942) is one of the most collected and cherished Canadian artists. His iconic, uplifting and patriotic images have independently earned their place in museums across the country. Pachter’s artworks, and unique version of Pop Art, have confirmed his position in the canon of 20th century Canadian art. Pachter’s most cherished images take archetypes of Canadiana -- the barn, Queen Elizabeth, and the moose, -- and depict them with a distinct style, a fresh palette (and often through a humorous lens). “Mini Blue Barn...

Forest Calm, Bright Landscape Art, Vibrant Woodland Tree Painting, Light Art
Located in Deddington, GB
Nature and forest places are so healing meditative and peaceful. I love walking out to the woods in the summer. The sunlight is iridescent shining through the leaves creating beautiful shadows over the ground. I have always been entranced by the shadows and light in the forest. I create the effects of transient light by harnessing optical mixing and some of the colour theory employed by the impressionists resulting in a semi-abstract contemporary painting. An original artwork, one of a kind, this painting has been created with high quality acrylic paints on a deep edged canvas so no need for a frame. I use impasto techniques applied with a palette knife in multi layers, which creates a contemporary painting and if you look closely you can see the first layers applied in places. Amanda Horvath is a contemporary artist whose works are available at Wychwood Art online and in our gallery. Amanda is influenced by the woods and moors of her home in the Peak District. Achieving a B A Hons (first class) in fine art Amanda went on to lecture in painting and printmaking. Now working full time as an artist from her studio her paintings are informed by the wild landscapes of her home. Renowned for forest scenes Amanda’s paintings are full of colour, texture and contrast, with an emphasis on delicate light effects and dramatic shadows. “I have a close connection to the natural world and painting is a response to the beautiful landscape, I attempt to capture the spirit of the land and the ethereal quality of light filtering through woodlands. Through my work I hope to impart the sense of peace and meditative calm I feel in these quiet places. This affinity with nature has grown from childhood and my past experiences” An important part of the creative process is to be absorbed in nature, so it begins with walking in the landscape making preliminary notes. These form the foundations of the work translated onto canvas in the studio. Harnessing some optical mixing techniques the paintings are created with layer upon layer of highly textured paint, worked expressively using palette knives and brushes, which results in paintings that lie somewhere between abstraction and realism. Her work has found homes...

Wonderful post-modern wall sculpture that is part of artist Jack Reilly (American, b. 1950) "Classics Series" solo exhibition held at the Boritzer-Gray Gallery in October, 1989 at Los Angeles. The combination of linear structure and color field painting with illusionary space resulted in a unique synthesis of abstraction and pictorial depth, which was sometimes referred to as "Abstract Illusionism." Signed and dated on verso "Jack Reilly, October 1989." Image size: 19"H x 29"W x 3.5"D Reilly's early work reflected various influences of prominent artists of the time including Frank Stella, Elsworth Kelly...
