Consalvo Carelli Wall Decorations
Consalvo Carelli was an Italian landscape painter and watercolor artist, born in 1818, in Naples, Italy. He is also known as Gonsalvo Carelli. He joined the School of Posillipo, a group of neapolitan painters, who largely focused on neapolitan landscape paintings. He painted many works, some using oils, but mostly with watercolors and drawings that largely depicted neapolitan landscapes, including Phlegrean Fields, the town of Sorrento and the Amalfi coast.
After spending some time in Rome, from 1837-40, Consalvo painted the real life beauty of the Roman islands and scenes of popular life. The fine quality of his artworks arouse the interest of the aristocracy abroad, particularly in Russia. Some of his landscape paintings of Naples are still on display in the State Hermitage Museum, in Saint Petersburg, Russia.
