Artist Statement
Having started my career by painting Rembrandt-like portraits of luminous white roses, I credit my discovery of fractals for transforming my artistic vision, and changing the direction and force of my work. Always working with a single image of a flower, or a component thereof, I have stripped away the mask of the exterior form and magnified the interior thousands of times to depths beyond what is visible to the naked eye.
My subject is no longer simply a flower; it is a dynamical system existing in a chaotic universe filled with energy, turbulence, mystery and beauty. Additionally, I have discovered that the system repeats itself through multiple phenomena. This is where I have taken the literal definition of fractals, and put my creative voice to the principles. Though the non-representational work may suggest a natural likeness - a wing, a wave, a shell, or even a human form - my vision invites a fresh dialogue between aesthetics and science.
Whether creating evocative representational images or boldly deceptive non-objective work, my focus is always on the choreography of the movement, the organization of the space, the subtlety in the tonal transitions, and the intricacy of the brushwork. Exclusively painting...

Deborah Bigeleisen - Dynamism 4, Painting 2012
By Deborah Bigeleisen
Located in Greenwich, CT
Most of Deborah’s paintings concentrate on a single bloom, large in size, so stunning that they command the
view of the audience. With great affection she takes care to capture every detail of their texture and shape.
Through the sophistication of her palette, she captures all of the fragility and beauty of her subject.
The painterly appearance of her works belies the fact that their buttery-looking surfaces are actually created by
layers of opaque paint and transparent washes. She pants in oils because she loves their organic purity, their
richness, and the sensual physical qualities of the medium. Focusing on beauty and aesthetics, she uses the
glazing techniques developed by the Dutch Master Artists...

REFLECTIONS 1 - Contemporary Atmospheric Landscape, Modern Seascape Painting
By Grzegorz Wójcik
Located in Salzburg, AT
A few words of the artist about his art:
When i painting landscapes, I usually choose simple geometric arrangements, contrasts of verticals and levels. I juxtapose the smooth surface of the sky with the rough texture of earth or grass.
I paint symmetrical reflections in water and rhythmic repetitions of trees. Even an ordinary, seemingly uninteresting fragment of the suburban landscape hides a beauty that I want to see and then transfer to the canvas.
I am inspired by nature because it contains a hidden secret of existence. For me, painting it is a reflection on life and passing away. It is an attempt to capture the imperceptible essence, to paint what cannot be seen.
I think that my paintings can be a respite, an antidote for a man tired of technology, constant rush, hustle and bustle of the city.
Grzegorz Wójcik...

Large Modernist Figurative Abstract Oil Painting BASKET
By Marlene Bauer
Located in Surfside, FL
A Pacific Northwest native, Bauer was born in Vancouver, Washington, and has maintained a studio in Portland, Oregon since 1976. She attended the Pacific Northwest College of Art and the University of Oregon where she received her M.F.A. Since that time, she has exhibited her work throughout the Northwest while teaching art as an associate professor at Marylhurst University.
Bauer applies her modernist approach to her artwork, and her paintings become a sort of balancing act in reconciling her subjects and her techniques. Teetering between abstraction and representational, Bauer's houses are depicted as simplified forms, exploiting a universal iconography. The recognizable elements in her artwork – trees, buildings – are unconventionally depicted in wide patches of overlapping color, "pulling each painting away from literal interpretation." Marlene Bauer's abstractions stem from her interest in the visual dynamics of a quick impression of a landscape from a moving car or a glance out a window.
The artist has exhibited her work in solo exhibitions at the Laura Russo Gallery, the Elizabeth Leach Gallery (both in Portland), and the Davidson Galleries in Seattle. Bauer's artwork is included in many of the region's public and private collections including the King County Regional Justice Center, Bank of America, the City of Portland, the City of Seattle, the Oregon State...
