Lionel Pratt Abstract Drawings and Watercolors
Lionel Pratt is a post-graffiti and street art artist whose work is inspired by memories from his childhood, Basquiat, his passion for jazz music and his love for urban life. His mixed media paintings resemble elementary school blackboards, city walls with an expansive block of colors and childish like drawings with misspelled words. Working first on the background of his canvas, he often mixes tea with paint to create stains and mimic the surface of city walls. Pratt’s mixed media paintings show emotional depth, unique iconography and strengths in composition with raw gestural, graffiti-like images and scrawled text. His work is about identity, how we construct ourselves and gain experiences from our early years sitting on school benches, from musicians that we admire and inspire us and from people who cross our path.
