Israeli Surrealist Painting Female Circus Performer Acrobat with Cat
By Haya Graetz Ran
Located in Surfside, FL
Voluptuous, ala Fernando Botero, female circus performer with spectators and cat. Haya Ran was born in Holon, Israel in 1948 on the same date as the State of Israel was founded. From 1968 to 1973 Ran lived on Kibbutz Sasa. After her stay on the Kibbutz, she took courses on Graphics at The Technion 1975-1978. Tel Hai Institute
Ran paints with water colors, using a multilayer method, which creates an illusion of tempera. Ran came up with this technique herself, influenced medieval painters. Ran says that the reds, browns, and golds in most of her feminist works are inspired by the performing arts: the circus, clowns, acrobats, dancers, and the fantastic. Haya Ran doesn’t identify today with any particular artistic school. Her works are born out of personal experiences and feelings. They come from the remembrances of her past, of her life and her experiences as a child, and from the fantasies she entertains about them. Her subjects emanate from her private, inner world. Haya Ran focuses on the world of the female. Her women are a peculiar lot. Their dimensions are offer wide, distorted, and grotesque, yet their poses and settings are as enticing and charming as they are sexually arousing. Others of Haya Ran’s women remain attached to elements of a lost childish innocence; dolls, wooden horses, masks, and wooden birds. Her works are executed with watercolors on paper. Her technique resembles that of Renaissance tempera. She superimposes strata and blends them together to create the impression of a past era. She creates not by putting down on paper her sudden impulses, but by devoting painstaking attention to the smallest details over countless hours.

EMANUEL ROMANO
Rome, Italy, b. 1897, d. 1984
Emanuel Glicenstein Romano was born in Rome, September 23, 1897.
His father Henryk Glicenstein was a sculptor and was living in Rome with his wife Helena (born Hirszenberg) when Emanuel was born his father obtained Italian citizenship and adopted the name Enrico. Emanuel was brought up in Italy, Switzerland, Germany, England and Poland.
In 1926 Emanuel and his father sailed for New York. They briefly visited Chicago. Romano's sister, Beatrice, and mother only joined them in New York years later.
Romano changed his name on his arrival to America and some have erroneously speculated that this was to avoid antisemitic anti Jewish discrimination. In truth, as the son of a highly-regarded artist, Romano changed his name to ensure that any success or recognition he would later attain, would be the result of nothing other than his own merit as an artist, and not on account of his father's fame.
In 1936 Romano was worked for the Federal Art Project creating murals. During and immediately after World War II, Romano created a series of allegorical works depicting graphic holocaust images that were held closely by the family until after his passing. One of these works is now on permanent display in the Florida Holocaust Museum in St. Petersburg Florida.
Emanuel's father died in 1942 in a car accident before they could realize their shared dream of visiting Israel.
In 1944 Romano, having completed his degree at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts and the Art Institute of Chicago, began teaching at the City College of New York.
Romano moved to Safed, Israel in 1953 and established an art museum in his father's memory, the Glicentein Museum.

Art Nouveau Portrait of Redhaired Lady Watercolor by French Master Brisgard
Located in Stockholm, SE
Signed lower left "G. Brisgard" (Gustave Joseph Marie Brisgand, 1867 - 1944). This stunning portrait of a supposedly young movie star captures the essence of old school glamor in the film industry (perhaps old Hollywood...). Dressed in a beautiful stage gown, she holds an intricately patterned box close to her heart. What treasures could be inside? Perhaps precious jewelry or heartfelt letters from a special someone. Who knows... One thing is certain, this box holds great value to her. In 1993, this painting was entitled “Le Secret”, it was masterly executed in early 20th century in the manner of Pre-Raphaelites with strong flavor of Art Nouveau though.
Size app.: 71 x 52.5 cm (roughly 28 x 20.7 in), frame is 94.5 x 75.5 cm (roughly 37.2 x 29.7 in). Appears to be in very good pristine condition with minimal wear to painting (slight discoloration by spots), ready to hang. Please study good resolution images for cosmetic condition. In person actual painting may appear darker or brighter than in our pictures, strictly depending on sufficient light in your environment. Weight of app. 3.6 kg is going to measure 7 kg packed for shipment.

Gentlemen at the Races, Point to Pointing
By Sir Alfred James Munnings
Located in Cotignac, FR
Early 20th century watercolour of a gentleman on horseback with other riders in the background apparently signed or titled 'Count A de Monthaus'. Signed or titled bottom left. Presented in fine period gilt frame under glass.
The artist has captured a moment of pause, the gentlemen rider in his fine clothes and bowler hat regarding his surroundings as his fellow riders continue the chase behind him, possibly a 'point to point'. Monthaus has captured the stance of the standing horse as well as the movement of the other horses. He has used white to give light and definition to the costume of the rider and the background. A lovely atmospheric and dynamic watercolour very much of its period and in the spirit of equine portraiture made famous by the likes of Sir Alfred Munnings.
Sir Alfred James Munnings, KCVO PRA RI (8 October 1878 – 17 July 1959) was known as one of England's finest painters of horses, and as an outspoken critic of Modernism. Engaged by Lord Beaverbrook's Canadian War...
