Mid-Century Modern Rude Osolnik Biomorphic Sculptural Mahogany Bowl
By Rude Osolnik
Located in Dayton, OH
Mid-century hand turned abstract biomorphic bowl by Rude Osolnik. Made of mahogany featuring modernist design. Marked Osolnik Originals, Mahogany. Measure: 8.5"
Rude Osolnik (1915-2001) was widely admired as one of the finest wood turners in America, and his workshops and seminars were in demand around the world. His bowls and signature candlesticks are collector's items, and his pieces are in the permanent collections of major galleries around the world.
Considered to be one of the fathers of contemporary wood turning in America, Rude Osolnik is something of a folk hero. Working in Kentucky, he created robust forms from a variety of woods. Osolnik is noted for his ability to use figures in the wood he laminates, creating a signature look that emerges only as the work is turned.
Rude Osolnik moved to Kentucky in 1937 to run an industrial arts program at Berea College...
