Exceptional and unique, 3 feet tall, Gothic Revival wall barometer, circa 1890.
This unique antique from the second half of the 19th century, in our view, is the dream of anyone with a Gothic (inspired) interior. This design could not be more Gothic and to have found a barometer of this size and with this many Gothic details, again, felt like a blessing. And even though we had to pay-up to be able to acquire it, when you find an antique that is this rare and good then you should always try to buy it. This monumental and solid nutwood antique barometer is entirely hand carved and, as you can see in our photos, the workmanship is second to none. This work of Gothic wall art is perfectly symmetrical and we love the fact that only the large church pilars are carved in a different pattern. This rare design feature, to us, shows the creative nature of its designer. We also love the many Gothic church spires on top and the way this entire 'composition' is superbly balanced. There also is small 'ledge' underneath the barometer and thermometer, possibly for displaying some small sculptures. The only downside would be that the inside of the barometer/thermometer is not squeaky clean. Maybe it is easy to open the front of the barometer, but we have no experience with that. Have you also noticed the amazingly detailed Gothic leafs at the top of both the large pilars? They too display the amazing workmanship of a seasoned craftsman. Besides the enormous height and width, what also makes this rare barometer truly impressive is its depth, because this almost gives you the idea of looking at a magnificent barometer through 3D glasses. Rare size, solid bronze, Victorian Gothic box with multiple church window-like panels.
Over the years we have sold a number of rare and unique boxes, but never a Gothic Revival one of this length and looking like a medieval antiquity. Let us start of by saying that this antique box truly looks much better in real life than in our photos. There are as many as 28 Gothic church-like panels depicting biblical scenes all around. They are not the most detailed, but we feel this was done in an attempt to make this antique box look truly time-worn and medieval. Anyone who knows what it took (in terms of time and skills) to create this box will be just as enthousiastic as we were when we first saw it. It would have taken the artisan(s) working for Adolph Frankau of London quite a few hours (if not days) to first design this luxurious box piece on paper. The Gothic cathedral windows would then have to be hand carved out of wood or handmade using clay or another material. Then molds would have to be made from those sculptural plaques after which they would have been cast in bronze. The castings would have to be polished and the panels would have to somehow be welded together. Then any sharp edges would have to be grinded down and all the pieces of this box would also have been patinated and the lid hinged. When you look at this box with that in mind then you will see it in a whole new perspective. Have you also noticed the beautiful Gothic leaf pattern on the lock plate? This fully marked antique box comes with a working lock and key, but we will not try to close it, because one never knows if it will open again. If it won't then you have to damage this beautiful antique to be able to open it again. This rare and long antique box actually is a copy of what special Gothic boxes would look like in the 14th, 15th and 16th century. Back in those (Medieval) days these long Gothic boxes were made for safe-keeping and transporting parchment rolls and/or ordinances. In all our years we have never seen an antique copy...

This entirely handcrafted, Chinese table from circa 1880-1890 is as strong and stable as the day it was made and it has the most beautiful patina. Thanks to its ideal design and size this, to us, is the perfect wine table or perhaps a pedestal for an Asian spiritual sculpture. Unfortunately we know nothing about the carved mythological, Chinese figures/creatures (possibly dragons) on each corner. All sides of this solid wooden table also come with striking flower motives and all legs have carved, claw feet. The bottom of the solid wooden structure of this Asian table is marked with Chinese calligraphy -like letters stating its country of origin. Apart from some minor restorations to the wood (that give this antique table even more character), this stylish and rare table is in excellent condition and it is definitely ready for you to use and enjoy.

This handcrafted work of beauty dates from the late 1800s and it comes with a variety of striking details and compartments. The two folding lids come with beautifully silvered brass hinges and the lock works perfectly via the original key. It is only when you have opened the lids that you can press the silvered button in the middle (it is on a stick) to open the secret drawer below. In the back of the secret drawer is a game that we have never seen before (see image 11) and we don't know if it is complete. The secret drawer can also be used to keep decks of cards and alike. Also, only when the lids are open, will you be able to take out the bottles as well. For those who did not yet know, these striking 'minibars' with lock and key were created so that the butler or maid or any other non-family member could not secretly drink the very expensive liquids that these decanters would have held. Unique and large size, antique corpus of Christ on a blackened oak cross.
If you are looking for a large crucifix with a not too overwhelming corpus of Christ for your house of prayer or for your home(chapel) then this unique ecclesiastical antique from the late 1800s could be the one. According to the former owner, this ancient bronze-color painted and sizable corpus and cross came from a monastery in Germany. The details in the anatomy of this Christ sculpture are very well carved and they clearly reveil the work of a seasoned carver / sculptor. We were also immediately impressed by the coloring, because the patina on this corpus from a little distance very much resembles the patina of antique bronze sculptures that you can find in every major market square here in Europe. We also particularly appreciate the details in the face and the position of the head of Christ. Both the angle in which He bowes His head and the details in His face are very realistic and they leave a lasting impression. We believe the artist has perfectly captured the moment in which Jesus bowed His head as He died on the cross. The ebonized oak cross is original to this corpus, but we think it was ebonized later in time, because it makes this unique and stunning sculpture stand out better. This solid oak cross has metal-strengthened openings in the back (both atop and at the bottom) via which this crucifix is safe and easy to mount. Because of the quality, the rarity, the large size, the beauty and the deeper meaning we are convinced that this antique crucifix too will find a new home soon. Whether it be in a private home, monastery or in a church, this work of religious art from the late 1800's will never fail to impress. Thanks to the pair of metal hooks on the back, safely mounting this ecclesiastical antique tight to your wall will be very easy to do.

This remarkable table with its amazingly hand-carved details and superb claw feet is extra rare, because it is made in the Chippendale Style. And the craftsmanship that was put into creating this antique would make Thomas Chippendale himself proud. You will hardly ever find a Chippendale Style table (or any other antique table for that matter) with such stunningly hand-carved details and for them to be as good as new after one hundred years shows that former owners too understood the importance of and the respect that one should have for this quality made piece. Apart from some minor imperfections to the table top the entire exterior AND interior of this table could not be in better condition. Even the original, inlaid, green felt 'playing field' of this table is as close to perfect as possible. This rare antique is both elegant and stately at the same time and for it not to have a maker's name on it, is strange to say the least. Because of the design, the quality of the make and the beauty of the materials, we believe this piece can only have been made by one of the European top makers from that era. By first pulling the rear legs out and then folding the top, this Chippendale table can be turned into a beautiful games table with a fine felt surface. With early 20th century light fixtures being one of our specialities, we always love finding unique pendants. This particular work of beauty comes with a very attractive and superb condition alabaster shade that rings like a bell when you strike (that is how structurally sound it is). This good size mineral stone light fixture also comes with the original gilt bronze hinging chain and canopy + a number of beautiful strings / bunches of multi color, art glass, grape like beads. These grape bunches too are in excellent condition.
You can also easily remove the 3 glass strings to switch styles (see pictures 5, 11, 12, 15 and 19). This fixture makes the perfect pendant or small chandelier for an apartment as well. Thanks to the hook inside the canopy it also is easy to mount to the hook coming from your ceiling / junction box. We have said it before and we'll say it again...

Having been specialised in selling antique light fixtures for over 20 years we love to keep finding amazing fixtures that we have never seen before. This marvelously hand-crafted brass and transparent glass (all beveled) hallway pendant is another one of those rare finds off which we immediately knew we had to have it. There are so many interiors in which this antique pendant will look perfect that we have no doubt it will soon be gracing someones home again. Apart from the open design and the beautiful and durable materials this wonderful pendant light also stands out, because of the many, transparent and beveled glass panels in their perfect brass frames. Finding this rare light was a treat, but for all 36 glass 'windows' to have stood the test of 100 years time without any cracks is just amazing. The outside is a hexagonal design, but the 'base' and 'top' of this pendant are open and decorated with flowing bronze elements that make this work of lighting art even more beautiful.
