Arched Blue and White Platter by Ivana and Saura Vignoli
By Bottega Vignoli
Located in Atlanta, GA
Geometric design, powerful patterns of history. See works by Ivana and Saura Vignoli at Bottega Vignoli.
.
The artists were born 1948 and 1956. Bottega Vignoli began in 1976 in Faenza, Province of Ravenna, Italy. These collaborative and talented sisters graduated from Ballardini Art School of Faenza and have become a mainstay Atelier in the Faience tradition.
.
Influences & Process: “Encountering optical art and the works of Bridget Riley. Also, I owe much more to The Who’s t-shirts than to five years of schooling! To this day that’s still my source of inspiration, together with Byzantine and Arabic art.” - Saura Vignoli) [We] use “technique that derives from the Arabian world, which involves firing the majolica with blast-fire reduction. In this process, the copper oxide turns red-gold from green-black. But each firing has a story of its own, and each product results in different effects.” (Vignoli)
