Vintage American Hand Hooked Rug with a Standing Squirrel in Lavender, Khaki
Located in Barrington, IL
Vintage American hand hooked rug in a wonderful depiction of a standing squirrel and looking out design. The rug has a delightful design and colors including Khaki background and design colors of lavender red, green, yellow and white. We are intrigued with the novelty and the imagination of the maker in creating such a wonderful and rare design in great colors that would make this piece a wonderful wall art. Please note the companion item to this is SKU 2040, which is depiction of a two birds in a tree nest created by the same artist.
The hooked rugs from the late 19th and early 20th centuries are made with recycled old material, often used clothing that had been cut into narrow stripes. The foundation of hooked rugs is generally burlap material which the maker uses the stenciling technique to transfer the pattern into the surface. Once the design has been transferred to burlap, it would then be filled with the recycled material stripes and more recently yarn using the hooking technique. Because of the delicacy in the material and construction of vintage hand hooked rugs, they should be used with care. The use of special design and the brilliant colors makes this truly an artistic piece wonderful to be used as a wall art or displayed on a table. Antique Hooked Rugs are a combination of Folk Art Creativity and Simplicity. When it comes to true simplicity and artistic creativity Antique Hooked Rugs have some of the best representations.

Vintage Native American Navajo Square Rug in Ivory, Yellow, Rust, Blue, Black
Located in Barrington, IL
An exceptionally rare square-format Navajo rug, handwoven in the Southwestern United States during the third quarter of the 20th century, this vintage textile is a superb example of Native American weaving and Southwestern design heritage.

The center medallion is a bouquet of flowers in pastel color including pale green, yellow, ivory and pink. The edge of the rug is a pale brown framing the design. The essence of “American Folk Art '' the hand-hooked rugs were generally created by the individuals using simple tools and material recycling for use in their homes. The simplicity in the design and sometimes the naiveness of the figures adds to the beauty and the charm of this vintage folk art creation in our Americana Collection.
Antique and Vintage Hooked Rugs are a combination of Folk Art Creativity and Simplicity. When it comes to true simplicity and artistic creativity Antique Hooked Rugs have some of the best representations. The tradition of Hooked Rug started in New England. “Hooking” started as a hobby for the farmers in the long and dark cold winter nights of North East States in the US in the early 1800s. Hooked rugs were made as functional pieces for the home either as a bed cover or small carpet for the floor.
