Early 20th Century 2-Tier Cabinet from Fujian, China

About the Item

An early 20th century 2-tier carved cabinet from Fujian province, specifically Quanzhou city, China. This is a very unusual cabinet as it is much more decorated than usual. On the top section, on both sides of the cabinet frame are paintings of dragons encircling the 8 immortals. The words are in traditional characters; the two words on the right ?? means fine and beautiful silk products, it is also used to imply beauty and virtue. The two words on the left ?? means jewels and treasures, it is also used to describe beautiful poems and paintings. There are many auspicious symbols throughout the cabinet, like the phoenix, fishes, deer, longevity symbols, Buddha's citron etc. The condition of this piece is 100% original and no lacquer have been applied onto it. It is made of Fir wood, with the carved portions made from Camphor wood. The cabinet consists of two tiers with the bottom tier at 91cm tall. The brass pulls on the top doors are missing, this can be replaced with new ones that look similar upon request.

  • Condition:
    Wear consistent with age and use. Minor losses. Minor structural damages. The cabinet has not been restored at all and thus there is some minor instability. Upon request, we can repair the joints to ensure its stability, we can also replace the brass pulls with similar looking ones.

    These large doors originated from Shanxi province, China, and are approx. 100-120 years old. Made of Elm & Pine, the most unique part about these doors are the many signs that are affixed on it, do note that although the doors are antique, these signs are added much later on.
